What do you guys think of my system?

This is my poor man's ebb and flow system. Im using hydroton as my medium. i filled it with water today and it works just fine. I have a seedling that just sprouted out of soil, but im not sure when to transplant it. Does anyone have any tips they can give me?

not much mate...

 

those tubs need to be light proof... otherwise.. water + light = algae.. and altho a little algae is ok.. the way these are set up.. youll get root rot..

 

you need to use black poly tubs.. UVpvc.. has to be UV proof.. otherwise they will crumble to pieces in about 3 months..

 

otherwise.. it will work fine enough.. just black out them tubs... are you sure theyre UV proof?

oh i dont know if theyre UV proof, probably not. but if i wrapped them in trash bags would that be fine? and i realize im gonna have to cut the hose, but would it be bad if there was a tiny puddle of water at the bottom, would that mess up my plant if the roots got down to there? i plan on getting bigger tubs eventually but i want to use this until i get a couple extra bucks. I need to know how big the seedling should be before i transplant it form dirt to hydroton into the system.

 

Im growing my seedling with a 67 watt regular as s light bulb. i need a solution for a light that is under 50 dollars preferably. and my dad has this spotlight he used to light up our driveway for us to play basketball, its bright as fuck, but would it work for my plants?

 

I appreciate any feedback because im a beginner with growing indoors.

also I dont think you use the lid with the top,

I think it suppossed to sit in the bottom (of the top tub)

I just bought the cheapest light for growing plants that i could find, for like 6 bucks. Does anyone know if i can actually grow plants with this light? it says its for plants but its only 60 watts

the thing is.. if youre ever going to get any decent bud from a grow you will have to use a HPS light... check out the grow room calculator to see what size light you will need for your space.. Pures spent a lot of time building it.. and its a great source for seeing what exactly you will need...

 

as from transplanting the seedling from dirt to hydroton.. you will need to wash ALL the dirt out.. so its best to transplant it into some perlite or rockwool early on before it gets too big...

 

and are you sure the seedling is a female?...

Hey guerillafarmer420, you are going into a full on system here, for a beginner why not try something outside, the sun is your best friend in summer, a good potting mix would do the trick, and you can shift it around it would give you a little bit of experience in how the plant grows, and hopefully you will learn how to sex it also. So have a think because where you are going is a dead end.

ive grown outdoors before. check my plants from last season out^^^.i probably should have mentioned that im doing this out of boredom and dont expect any bud, a few clones to start off the outdoor season would be nice though.
