cannabis and epilepsy

Hi,

Just started posting so forgive me if this has been mentioned before. I have epilepsy and have tried many different medicaions to control it but the one I found that controls it best is cannabis! I have found that smoking greatly reduces my seizure threshold and as a result I have been able to reduce the amount of medicaion I need to take. Just wondered if anyone out there experienced this or is it all in my head?!

No I don't think you are the only one. My ex girlfriend used to have epilepsy quite badly and whenever she smoked weed it seemed to calm it down immensely.

I'm in medicine and as far as I can gather, cannabis activates the endocannabinoid system which slows down neuronal excitability, ie slows down brain cell signalling.

 

Epilepsy is due to hyperactive brain signalling.

 

Hence, by theory, ganja should in fact help epilepsy.

I also use it for epilepsy. I find it reduces severity, duration and how often I have fits. It also stops spasms and shakes that I also experience. I have found, however, that I can have too much ...too much will exacabate the fits...for me, at least. It varies with everyone.
