first time grower needing setup info

Hi there :D

mmpharris and welcome to ozstoners, just about any good potting mix will and water it say every 2-3 days as that is how i started with my 1st grow, i only just finnished a few weeks ago and done ok with it, try a 50/50 mix of potting mix and vermiculite or as some of the ppl here say 70% vermiculite and 30% potting mix i hope this has helped u a little, there is a lot of ppl here that can give u a lot more info so if you need to know anything jusk ask :P

Hi there mmpharris, welcome to Oz Stoner's, I would suggest buying a moisture meter from a nursery or Kmart, they look like a box on a stick and cost $7 or $8, you only need a cheap one because you will only use it until you get the hang of things.

Hey ozmade, you should use perlite, not vermiculite, vermiculite retains water.

hey mm,

 

I would suggest trying to get a potting mix with a PH of around 6.5. I used an alkaline mix for my first grow which I'm still on and had nothing but problems. Searles premium potting mix has a PH of 6.5 and I am using that for my clones now and they seem to be doing OK so far.

 

In terms of watering just wait till the top inch of soil drys out then water until it comes out the drain holes. Some say you should empty excess water which collects in pot saucers after watering.
