What the hell

I have discovered insect crap all over the bottom leaves of one of my plants in the grow cupboard and found 2 green catapillars that have been munching into some fan leaves and it gets worse most of the bottom branches have chucked out some male flowers and its about 7 weeks into flowering I'll be pulling this one in a week or 2 they are nearly ready.

I had pollinated some of these bottom branches with WW pollen so god damn it now I will have hermie seeds amongst my hybrid seeds.

Why the hell did it do this when it's just about ready for harvest??Did the caterpillars do this?? :peace:

yea female plants that throw male pollen, is usually stress related but can be throwback genetics too .. i would be doubtful on the catterpillars causing it though .. stress in plants can be any prolonged period of un-natural conditions / environment

sometimes the male pollen at 7 wks into flower can be sterile, also if you are picking in a week or two time then the pollen if it was fertile, would not produce viable seeds ... seeds take 6 or more weeks to form and become viable in my experience

although its a bummer getting pollen at all it may not be such a big deal in the long run

next Q is, if the apperance of pollen is genetic then the seeds you deliberately made may or may not carry that hermie gene also, but you dont know until they grow out :peace:

alot in this growing is trial and error so stick with it and you will have some joy along the way im sure ..

Thanks Frazzle yeh I guess the seeds will most likely not form to full size/mature and there for shouldn't be a big problem

More concerned about ruining my breeding efforts but luckily I put rings of tape around the branches that I fertilized.

Pretty happy that the male flowers are purely stress related rather than genetic oh well atleast the buds are looking mighty good on top :peace:

i think it would have been easy to pick out the seeds you made specifically...they would be nice and mature while the self seeded effort would be pretty much a grain of sand in the flowers. you might get the odd one that actually has a seed shape, but i highly doubt they would look nearly as good as the hybrid ones you made ;)

personally my money would be the other way around. im assuming you have pretty much light sealed the room, havent messed with the light hours, constantly cut the plants back, etc. so i could be wrong, but provided the plants get 12/12, you dont interupt their sleep with an hour or more of light and you dont constantly hack at the buds for a bit of smoko, etc. than there is a very high chance that the plant is a genetic hermie ;) it might only be a late stage hermie that produces totally sterile pollen, but it would be a hermie nonetheless and it wont make for fun breeding in the future :peace:

Ok interesting points raised by all! logger maybe some of the others did get pissed off about not getting some action??Ha ha more so that the bottom branches are not getting much light! That much is true

However like chronic said I might have to be wary of hermie genes??

Yeh the hybrid seeds are big and fat for sure

Y

why worry,,its to late to make seeds and there not in your main heads,,next time cut the lower branches off or make shore the lower branches get the proper light they need.................my best strain does the same thing,,,,,,,,,,,,i think only great strains do this(go into survival mode when need be)......if it was a true hermie it would have balls up the top too...............
