My First Grow Box

I agree that the HPS would be your best bet but for budget you could use the CFL's. Spectrums are important and for vege you want to use something close to a 6400K which is I think what the CFL's closest equivelant is. For flowering you want to find something like a 2700K. Get as much wattage as possible. I stumbled across some 46W CFL's at a hardware store and they were pretty nice. A couple of those and you would be set. It would do a treat for heat maintenance as well.

Although once again I agree that you aren't going to get the yields you can achieve from High Pressure Sodium or MEtal Halide technology.

Persky, I am running some nice plants in a box which started out at 4 ' tall plants grew heaps bigger than expected so I added a level and its now about 6'

Materials :box, all 12mm MDF (door is 10mm) from bunnings + hinges for door and small nails to put it all together

:100MM(I think? not going down to check heh heh) HPM exhaust fan from bunnings great powerful little fan

: 1.5 or xx meter length of cable and plug to connect to fan as you must wire up your self or a sparky mate

: 4 x 120mm(I think) PVC (WHITE) elbow joints for passive intake, bunnings. 2 intakes each consisting of 2 elbows to let in air keep out the light.

: drill with hole cutters of different sizes a few drill bits of varying sizes and maybe a sander attachment to smooth off or slightly increase intake holes incase hole cutter is a few mm too small etc

: duct tape to seal up gaps if you are lazy like me.Cheap and very effective

Lighting :ballast + Hood + 400watt hps sont agro red and blue specs in-one because I can be bothered switching globes from veg to flower very happy with results......Max temp 33 degrees C thermometer only 20cm from globe......ALL GOOD

Pots : Green Coles carry bags 3/4 full good soil with trays underneath for excess water.....works a treat
