Firstly what makes a good male?

 

Secondly is there any real need to have a male if giberellins are used in the breeding process?

 

I guess it would if a hybrid was the end goal; but probably not if the desired strain was stabilised.

 

Is it still possible to obtain pure sativa, pure indica & pure ruderallis strains of both?

 

Has any further work been done with Abscisic acid?

 

Can anyone recommend a simpletons guide to marijuana breeding?

 

Where would one obtain these hormones?

Firstly what makes a good male?

 

Selection for a male as your breeding male could look at the linage for such factors as;

 

Height, leaf to flower and polland production of the plant. Liange is also important as you may not know the specific inheratence qualities of the male, but if you do there is less diversity from f4's through to f1 (most diversity, more unstable expressions) F1's off-spring have the widest expreszion and less stability og the shared genetic traits.

 

Secondly is there any real need to have a male if giberellins are used in the breeding process?

 

Gibberellins (GAs) are plant hormones that regulate growth and influence various developmental processes, including stem elongation, germination, dormancy, flowering, sex expression, enzyme induction and leaf and fruit senescence.

 

First of all I would not know if you could isolate "Gibberellins" for use, Its a complex interatction of hormones which make up the interacting aspects of plant growth. I don't know if the science of genetics is yet to fully understand what goes on with Gibberellins.

 

Is it still possible to obtain pure sativa, pure indica & pure ruderallis strains of both?

Very difficult now that such alot of cross breeding of strains has occurred over many of hundreds of years.

 

Often many commercial seed co's may state the are "pure" strains but who knows.

Sukonmiskunk has a good breeding tute around here not sure if he finished it but still a good look

 

Gib's are being used alot these days to make Fem seeds and if you have a plant that you only have a female then its ya best option, unless you want to cross breed her, as you will get pure fem seeds from said female

 

pure strains are hard to get but they are out there, when i was overseas in Africa i brought back a pure landrace sativa "malawi gold" she is still in the progress stage of trying to get it used to indoor conditions, but definatly has possibilities

i'd like to be a breeder for a seedbank; damn they wouldn't even have to pay me in cash; just provide a place to live, something to eat, and a few toys; that's all I ask for.

I read recently Dr Chronics (i think) notes on feminised seed that feminised seeds can produce female, hermaphrodite and MALE plants.

 

Would the males be xx males or XY males? If XX would their offspring be feminised seeds?
