companion plants?

nici

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies and gents, I had a question from my wife earler about companion plants and if mj has any? Shes right into permaculture - for people not sure what that is, its a type of organic gardening where everything works together with very little matenence for the good of the garden. She was saying all plants should have a companion plant that helps one another grow. Were planning our garden and it just needs the final touch, so my question is; does everyones fav herb have a companion plant?

Cheers in advance guys and girls :peace:

Good Q! :peace:

I too have an interest in permaculture and decided to have a look-see what I could find . . . a fair few sites mention companion planting for marijuana . . . Roots&Harmony.com but they do only seem to mention the 'standard' companion plants for the usual 'detering insect pests' etc . . a group like the following Tweed Richmond Growers Assoc may be worth contacting [or a similar group in your area].

Not specifically a companion plant for MJ but every garden should have a Crepe Myrtle unless you really like aphids.

Crepe Myrtle is to a lady bug what crack cocaine is to a cheap toothless hooker; they just can't get enough of the stuff.

Fortunately my neighbour has a lovely specimen so we have lady beetles a plenty and nary an aphid in sight!

I`ve always considered companion planting to be a case of complementing traits between plants meself, while I have no idea of true permaculture principals, I have noticed things in the yard... Most ppl`s theory of growing Pot is bigger, better, faster. The same applies to mainstream crops too. Seems Pot loves the same things as most Summer vegies, and most hardy weeds... They`re tough!

I`ve always believed that my plants grow better with Comfry growing nearby, even if only in the same yard and using the Comfry leaves and flower stems as a mulch for my babies. Both like a rich, moist soil and the upside is Comfry can take the Nitrogen later in the season from the soil (thru the large leaf mass and no crop loss) and return much Potassium back to the soil in compost form... Perfect sheet compost B). Another good one is Valerian, the roots and leaf material return Phosporous and Potassium to the soil, :D not to mention steeping in a nice hot bath... The Female members with herbal knowledge know what I`m saying there :D
