problems with first grow

Gee

Recommended Posts

this is my first grow and i read up as much as i could before starting but at 4 weeks my plant looks way small.

it's growing in a cupboard which has been sitting around 30C and 30% humidity. i've just got myself a humidifier so i'm hoping this will lower the temp to 25C and raise the humidity as far as it will go.

the soil is a mix of perlite and tomato growing soil with no ferts. i have given it 1 drink of 1/4 strength Ionic nutes.

i've only been watering about 100ml every 2nd day but since i lost of of my 2 babies i've started giving 300ml every 2 days. is this too much or too little? it's in an 8L pot.

my 400HPS with cool tube sits about 50cm from the plant.

i have read to start flowering at around 4 weeks but i can't start with it this small can i? am i better off waiting a few weeks?

any tips or general advice?

Repot them into rose potting soil or a good organic soil mix and perlite. MJ don't go too good near tomatoes or in tomato soil.

really? i read a guide that said it was fine. i'm looking at starting another soon so i will try what you have suggested for the next plant. any recommendations on where to get soil with no slow-release ferts? i couldn't find any at bunnings or mitre10

I started off with just a rose potting mix from any nursery. Switched to Canna Terra Professional potting mix after spotting it in a hydro shop. 50ltr bags around $30. Hardly needs much watering. I found that out the hard way.:scratchin: No fertilizer added for about 3 or 4 weeks after germination. Then very light on the ferts.

From what I have read here and in books tomato's or tomato potting mix are no good. The plant is more akin to a rose than a tomato. I grew some amongst tomato's many years ago and the plants were shit. The tomato's were ok though. :P

My brother is growing Aussie Blues in Rose Marvel potting mix and some coco peat. Plants are about 4 weeks from germination.

seed looks fine mate, looks to me as if it is way too hot in there for the seedling. have you been checking the ph of the water? if the ph is off the leaves start to turn yellow like those pics.

To be honest mate, i'd go back to bunnings and buy a coco coir block and a bag of perlite, all up $10 or so i think. Then repot it in that and sit it ona window sill for a few days just to let it get its feet. Im saying this because i had mine under a 400w hps and it looked very sad, then i have had it outside for about 3 days now and it has doubled in size.

Gee , that is really not good for 4 weeks of growth, it looks like you might even be getting some nutrient burn there?

Also if it's bag seed you might just have a strain that is a really slow grower or just a shit strain in general.(not to say you can't get good bag seed I've had bag seed that has out performed top seed bank strains.

if you've got a mix of bag seed grow a few and chuck out the bad performers after 4-6 weeks of growth.

Sorry if you have got a decent strain on the go there, like the other person said move into some different soil

Try not to stuff around with your plants too much I would simply start by growing your plant in some ordinary potting mix doesn't even have to much in the way of nutrients, cannabis is a weed too many people make the mistake of trying to hard with there plants.I have seen dope grow perfectly healthy in crappy grey sand out the back of a mates he didn't even know it was there.

Yeah why not? Nothing to lose. I have a bag seed that is the same as yours after 3 weeks. I just over watered it so I am leaving it out in the sun but under cover so it gets no rain just the sun.

thanks for all the good info! i think for a while there i was over-paranoid and i under watered it and used nutes when i shouldn't have. i'm definitely too over-protective as well :peace:.

i had quite a few die in the first week of planting so this is the furthest i've gotten so far.

it's not bag seed but Aussie Blue x Sugar Babe. i got them free so it doesn't bother me, just wish i could get the feel for the grow and have it shoot up.

should i repot, leave a week or so to see how it goes, then switch to 12/12?
