Bonsai Moms Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Here a few of my Bonsai Moms wondering if anyone else keeps them. I like to think of them as little pieces of art.

post-19099-1224713696_thumb.jpg Kali Mist (*The Kali-mist seems to have the most trouble with compact growth it jut wants to stretch and stretch)

All these with the exception of the Kali-Mist were planted last March. I can cut about 10 clones off every three weeks. pot is a 25oz cup and average about 8'' - 12'' tall including the pot. I have to cut the roots once in the past 7 months but now there settling in quite nice and shouldn't need to be done for another year.

Good ?,

they are in soil. in the first 3-4 months you want these to get root bound. you simply cut the roots about one inch on all sides and add fresh soil. these are only 7 months but I heard after the first year you only cut the roots annually.

these are really fun to make but require patience. I messed up on the orginal kali mom.

hmm maybe a brief tutorial

requirments

-Sissors

-pot your pick

-Patience

-Fun

assuming you know how to germinate and get seedlings/clones started...

you let it grow until it a little more than the height you want (your pick). start to trim the plant in your Image. I used Twist ties to help shape them. dry out the soil and let the roots stretch. water/nute as needed and continue to shape the plant. in about 2-4 months(depending on light used) you will have a solid developed root ball. (IE: the roots in dirt come out in one piece.) time for the Cut you simply cut about 1inch of roots (left right front back and bottom) add fresh soil and continue having fun. after this point they shouldn't need another cut for some time. I allow about 72hrs in low light for recovery.

Thanks for Stopping by

With the Japanese Pines I'm pretty sure you can just grow em to the specific height you want, tip em, and then transplant into a shallow pot. I know what you mean though those things can get huge. I remember the first time I started reading about bonsai trees I went outside walking around with some snips and alcohol just tipping random trees I saw

Now I have a foot fully matured pine right infront of the house. Looks like a thing christmas tree missing all of its bottom branches :xcited:

Fun stuff!
