flushing soil & correcting soil pH

Recommended Posts

hey folks,

for the first time in my whole growing experiance i have just heard/read about flushing.. now this could have helped me out so many fkn times where somthing had gone wrong for eg the wrong soil ph, nute burn, deficiencys... sheesh.. >:(

anyway, im just not sure about this part - if i was to buy some cocopeat, can i adjust the pH of it by adding a head of pH addjusted water to it ? or just flushing it through pots ?

if i had planted some plants in soil, and then found out the pH was incorrect, could i just flush pH adjusted water through them too ?

im also pretty sure i added too much magnesium sulfate to the soil of some of the clones i have going.. causing a calcium deficiency.. could i just flush them a heap to get rid of that and just start them back on a mid strength nute ?

cheers folks,

Hi allhailthebud.

or the first time in my whole growing experiance i have just heard/read about flushing.

You don't learn if you don't ask. The short of it is that "flushing" is a term used mostly for indoor growing in pots containing the grow medium which has a supply of fertilizer alt\ready mixed in (although limited - depending on the mix used).

When growing in compost contained in a pot the mix may be a little "hot" - meaning that it's fertalizer contains too much fertilizer.

Outdoors in natural earth there is a number of naturally occurring nutrients and elements in soil or that can be added to adapt to a soil nutrient deficiency (ie. banana peals to add potassium when in flower - bigger buds - natural & cheap).

allhailthebud ....if i had planted some plants in soil, and then found out the pH was incorrect, could i just flush pH adjusted water through them too ?

So if your in pots and can drain them out WELL - then, yes you can flush with PH adjusted water adjusted to 5.8 - 6.8. Make sure they are left to drain well before restarting a feeding shedual or any more water is added, A trick to flushing is too be patient wait and watch.

im also pretty sure i added too much magnesium sulfate to the soil of some of the clones i have going.. causing a calcium deficiency.. could i just flush them a heap to get rid of that and just start them back on a mid strength nute ?

It would depend on how well established in the pots (ie root structure) and how much overdosing but a flush certainly wont hurt your plants providing the above drying out adviced is taken.

As some general advice "if in doubt don't do anything. " lol If you dont't have picturesa to post them provide more written info (ie age / medium / stage of plant growth(age) ect. this helps others to help you.

PS/ I hope your clone had roots on them before you poisoned them.

all the best of luck with them

lol

Nitty.
