A 69-YEAR-OLD woman was left shocked and disgusted after receiving cannabis seeds in the post.

Lorna Flint said she contacted police after the seeds were sent to her without warning, along with a glossy catalogue from a firm in Denmark.

She said the catalogue was “small but posh-looking” and arrived through her door yesterday morning.

“When I opened it up I found these seeds and it said on the letter, which was addressed to me, that they were cannabis seeds.

“It said on the front, ‘don’t be fooled on the street, grow your own.’ “I couldn’t believe it. It invited me to order even more and said the seeds they had sent were a £10 free sample, and even explained how you should germinate them.

“I was absolutely shocked something like this would come through the post. “My first thought was that if the police came to my home I would be in a lot of trouble, wouldn’t I?

“But I rang the police and they said that as it had been sent from abroad they would not take any action,” added Mrs Flint, of Britten Close, Greenstead, Colchester.

She added: “I told my husband and he was disgusted as well.”

She said she was concerned about who else the seeds had been sent to, adding it invited her to “send only cash”.

“My grandchildren are all grown-up now and would not be interested in anything like this anyway, but I am concerned about how many doors this has gone through and who may have received them,” she added.

A spokesman for Essex Trading Standards said it was very difficult for it to track down companies operating from abroad.

“We would advise residents to be wary of unsolicited mailings you receive where you are unsure of the sender,” he said.

“If you receive anything that asks you to send money or bank details, then the best thing to do is put it straight in your recycling sack, and shred it first if it contains any personal details.
