Deep Cycle Power with Inverter help

Recommended Posts

Hey all, im a new member here however was an old OG'er a while ago. got a question for ya, would it be possible to run 2 400w hps or 1 1000w hps with a couple of deep cycle batteries and a power inverter? the reason i ask is because i have some land in a very low populated area to grow on but its winter time and cant do solar or outside. i was wondering if i could simply run the HPS off of the deep cycle batteries, then recharge the battereis at night when im home from work, getting them ready for the next day. thanks all. (cant be on the power grid for this one because the lot doesnt have power, only a structure.)

Don't want to stop you from trying but I think with the situation you have described the project is likely to fail.

I doubt the batteries would be powerful enough and/or run for very long at all.also sounds like a logistical nightmare, what with charging and swapping batteries all the time.

I honestly think you should wait for spring/summer or wait until you have your own place? As by the sounds you would have grown at home already?

You must be in the northern hemisphere if it's winter?

All the best anyway mate.

eh john, thanks for your input. youre right about it being a pain BUT i would rather do it that way rather than at home. been there and done that for years, tired of the "what ifs" ya know. its the lesser of the two evils. so is it possible and if so, how many batteries and which inverter? one more question, what if i were to veg indoors, then flower outdoors during the winter? im in the desert so the winters are mild. never grown outside though, is the end result better than indoors? thanks again mates

midnight, flowering in winter will probably result in a pretty small harvest unless it is sunny most days which I suppose It would be in the desert? and if it is getting below 10 degrees C most nights you will probably stress the hell out of them unless you got some cold resistant strain which again could effect yields.

You would be better to flower in Autum when the daylight hours reduce and it's probably still warmish.

Sorry can't help you with the setup though...Maybe you could hard wire the inverter to the batteries and then you would have to plug your ballast into it and obviously your 400/600w light setup into the ballast

 Divide the total watts by 12 unless you use a 24 volt battery bank in which case divide it by 24, then multiply that by the number of hours you want to run, multiply that by 4 to allow 25% discharge or 5 for 20% discharge and you get how many amp hrs of battery you need. Multiply that by 1.1 to allow for the efficiency loss of the inverter and you have the answer you need midnight. If you intend to be carting batteries around it's not a feasible idea imo. You are going to need a truck
