Qld Police Commisioner unaware

Recommended Posts

So just because the commisioner is unaware does not mean it's not happening! Is the Commisioner aware of everything that happens? I highly doubt it.

Qld police deny journalist probe

September 28, 2008 - 1:20PM

Source: ABC

There are claims journalists' private records have been examined

The Queensland Police Service says it is unaware of any internal investigation targeting officers who talk to and associate closely with the media.

The Police Union says it has been approached by members about an internal Ethical Standards investigation into police officers who associate with journalists.

Police Union general secretary Mick Barnes says police officers work closely with the media every day and it is not a crime.

Mr Barnes says he has received advice that private telephone records and the bank statements of police officers and journalists have been examined.

"The information that I have received is that when matters are reported upon in the media, the Ethical Standards Command or other sections within the Queensland Police Service do reverse CCR checks on the phone calls made and received by journalists to track down the source of any information to the journalists," he said.

The Queensland Premier has been advised by the Police Commissioner that he is unaware of any internal investigation.

Anna Bligh says if the Police Union has any issues it should contact the Commissioner directly.

She says it is important that the police and the media have a good working relationship.

"The Queensland Government believes it's very important for the police service to have a strong relationship with the media," she said.

"The Commissioner has advised that he is not aware of any investigations into any member of the Queensland Police Service and their relationship with a journalist or the media.

"So I would advise the Police Union, who have these concerns, to raise them directly with the Commissioner."

It's ok to screw with the privacy of private citizens, more often than not without a warrant, but police too often seem to think that they're above the law.

Some friends of mine have been catching local cops doing minor illegal things & filming them. If ever they're done for anything they'll all release all their footage at once for some cheap revenge. some of the footage is pretty funny considering they're cops supposedly enforcing the law (on others, not themselves).
