Horizontal or vertical alignment of light (400w hps)

Recommended Posts

Growing with vertical hanging globes is a pain in the arse, try getting decent coverage to all colas, it can't be done, unless you have multiple globes.

Single lamp grow I would definately go horizontal WITH an adjustashade, yes the shades hold a lot of heat but reading the lux levels on a lux meter I have here the adjustashade are damn consistant in how they distribute the light.

One thing I have noticed that the vertical lamp crowd lovers don't mention is the small amount of light that is produced at the end of the lamp, this I have read from using the lux meter setting up my own lamps.

krusty made a massive scene at Overgrow arguing vertical hanging, but not once did I see anyone actually take any readings to prove one way over the other, although he was never one for science and loved ripping off others ideas as his own.

If their argument is the lamps throw 360 thus giving so much more light, what about the lumens that would be sent towards the ceiling?

Think about it.

Yes I am aware the lamps are 'omnidirectional', vertical lamp lovers like to throw this term around as they think this proves their theory. Omnidirectional only means the lamp can be mounted in any position, vertical or horizontal.

I am aware lux levels fall dramatically as they leave the lamp source, (the mathematical formula used to work out how the light level falls as it leaves the light source uses a square root coefficient), but at least with a decent brand reflector they aren't completely lost upwards.

I have a lux meter handy here and can take readings to prove it if anyone wants to debate this with some science.
