bonzai bubbling mothers

Recommended Posts

thanks white_cluster for the idea on the valves, they are just what the doc ordered..

now speaking about bonsai's...

BTW jrs, they are looking good..

it is definatly possible to grow a bonsai under 15cm, without a problem... and althought you could in theory obtain clones off her, they would be might small..

I had a freind how have me a clone in rockwool and dared me to bonsai it... she lasted about 18 months , only reason she died was I wnet camping and forgot to give her to someone to look after... She sat on my window sill obove the kitchen sink... no extra lights, no NUT , just a shallow bonsai bowel, good soil, seaweed extract for food,a nd regular trimming... I had her looking almost like a traditional bonsai... took a little training... but she was about 8 - 10 cm tall , bent to one side and stretched out around 10cm... her leaves were so tiny, and she flowered once in that time.... the buds were all of about 12 15 mm in length... but extremely potient

anyway, I wish I had the digi back then I'd love to have shared her with you all..

OK, I've got some small bubblers going so we'll soon see if they're effective for mothers or not. The round containers in the pics are 2.5 to 3 litres bought for like $3 at some bulk discount store, I think it was overflow. Bung some black tape around them, poke a hole through for the air hose and thats it. no medium, just a hole in the top that the plant sits through and is supported by the lowest branches. I didn't even secure the airstone in place. Water level is about 3 inches from the lid.

anyway this pic also shows why aero cloning is perfect for bubblers, in that you can leave the clones in the aero cloner until they grow nice long roots so that they are in the solution as soon as you put them in the bubblers. Normally they say you should water bubblers from the top until the roots reach the solution, but if your roots are long enough to start with this isn't necessary. My first clone with short roots in the bubbler died, even when watering it twice a day from the top. However on my second attempt I put a clone in with roots long enough that they were poking through the bottom of the net pot, and as you can see, its doing quite well.
