Stoners of the world, unite! After years feuding, being harassed by John Ashcroft, setting trends and co-starring in television and film, the original cannabis-loving comedy duo has returned to claim its throne.

The timing is right. With shows like Weeds, films like Pineapple Express and many more mutations of the stoner comedy currently infiltrating the mainstream like perfumed smoke, Cheech and Chong have finally decided to capitalize on trends it set back when it was actually less cool to do so.

Not that it wasn't cool then: The '70s was a period of transition and rebellion against convention, and Cheech and Chong did their part to make pot cool for everyone. Hell, even the duo's nemesis Sgt. Stedenko caved in at the end of Up in Smoke and got high, before eating everything in sight. It happened right as the duo took the stage in the film's finale to play their fabled laugher "Earache My Eye," a song that has since been covered in one form or another by Soundgarden, Korn, Rush, 2 Live Crew, Govt Mule and many more.

But the times, nevertheless, have changed. Cannabis is no longer demon weed. It's a serious cash crop.

"I think it's time for a revival of dope jokes, Marin explained in early July. "It's a much bigger audience now, it's much more widespread and institutionalized."

That institutionalization will be cemented by the duo's first comedy tour in 25 years, announced on Wednesday as "Hey What's That Smell?" in a West Hollywood press conference. The promoter? Live Nation. That's right, the same monolith that recently signed Madonna, U2 and (egads!) Nickelback. Are the end times upon us? Smoke up!
