Hey guys - what do you use for a mull bowl?

Some mates and I used to mull up with those little nail scissors and a small ceramic bowl years ago, or one of those mills for large jobs or leaf and tip for joints when we couldn't find bud. When I first discovered grinders I used to just grind up on the table or a piece of paper, but you end up losing trichomes so I wanted to pick up a nice piece as a permanent mull bowl - something functional but attractive.

It had to be stable so I don't tip it over and lose my stash on the carpet, not fragile in case it got dropped or hit, a decent size so you can get both hands in when rolling joints, something that wouldn't get marked or cracked when tapping my grinder against it to empty it... so that ruled out ceramic (too fragile), aluminium (too light, or too heavy, hard to find something in between and I try to stay away from metal paraphernalia as a rule), plastic (again too light, and not very environmentally friendly after all).... so I settled on wood.

We used to go down to Margaret River a fair bit so I kept an eye out for a nice hand-turned wooden bowl for a few months. Eventually found something close to what I was after. It's a nice jarrah bowl with good surface area, beautiful piece - though it could be deeper and have a lower centre of gravity... but all up it's not bad and has served me well over the last few years.

What do you guys use, and why? What do you look for in a mull bowl? Grinder or scissors?

i use one of those plastic cylindrical containers that screw together. i got it from supercheap auto cos it's meant for fixings. i have my weed and a lighter in the first container as well as a skewer for cleaning the cone piece. in the second container i keep my grinder and a spare baggy. in the bottom container i keep my spare rubber seals for my bong and my pipe and tally-ho papers. i'll take pics.

Hmm, i'm a bit embarrassed to show my Mull Bowl. As it's got 10 years of chit 'n resin built up on it...

Haha awesome, 10 years of use is fucking impressive Indy, I've got a paraphernalia fetish so nothing lasts that long around here. The Volcano might. I used to have an old pipe from JV's, the usual anodised stem with mouthpiece and cone but I went with the huge brass spotter cones with the screw-in lid and hole. Just add a couple of brass screens and that thing rocked, smokeless pipe and you could stick it in your pocket without ash falling out - think I had my first one for about 4 years then lost it, picked up another one years later and gave it away when I moved.

But yeah bowls always break or you lose them or something happens, never really used one until a few years ago but I'm sold on the idea now. Never liked using scissors so a grinder and bowl are a match made in heaven imho lol
