A shocking tale.....

Recommended Posts

You are lucky Jimbo. All that plastic and water and you became the earth conductor. The reason your breaker did not trip was that there was no earth leakage to cause the breaker to trip. You must have had a fair belt to throw you. Safety switches only work if there is an earth connection to the appliance you are using. I assume you had shoes on other wise you would not be here telling us what happened.

Ugg boots....God love em'....

Fark!

Glad your still with us jimbo lol

 would the RCD work if there was an earth connecting it to the water in the res?

Not sure about that but I think the appliance has to be earthed more than anything. If it was ok to put an earth into the water it would have to be a solid piece of copper rod and you could start to get copper particles in you water. That might be detrimental for the babies. lol

A stainless steel probe should work and be much more inert than copper.

I was thinking that, so long as the res water was earthed, as soon as the appliance failed and allowed current to reach the water, it would throw the RCD ..long before jimbo comes to stick his hand in there lol

I'm no electrician though, so I could be completely wrong

I'm not an electrician either, but I grew up around amateur radio and the old man was an electrician in his younger days. lol
