Light Movers

Recommended Posts

you would be better off using another 2 really because the more light the better in flower, but depending on price comparision between the movers and new lights, you could get away with it a bit cheaper but the results will speak for themselves. i always thought that movers would be probably good in veg but not in the light critical flowering period.

The benefit of using light movers is that you can get the lights much closer, and that the canopy receives light from more angles ...

It also means thats you can use 3 lights instead of 4 (meaning less heat) and roughly get the same effect....... :sleepyhead:

In the end i would say - if you can use the extra lights without heat being a problem then thats probly the best option, but if heat is an issue then the mover is the go....:scratchin:

Good luck with it mate

I had one, never got to use it though. Someone thought they needed it more than me...

Sorta glad in a way, because what sunny 'n billo mentioned was the best option in the end. Having the lumen's to suit the space is what i found to be the better option,. Plus, having a light mover, is just another thing that can fail in a grow room. :scratchin:

This issue really interests me a great deal. I nearly bought one a while bck second hand, pretty cheap, but i don't have the space to run it atm, so figured I could use the money more efficently in other ways in my current grow.

But it's this matter of getting the lights right down ontop of the plants that i'm interested in it for, more so that conserving money on the lights. After all, I think most of us would agree the "economics" of growing indoors is rarely improved by tryingto spend less money . Crikey, that sounds dumb. I mean use bag seed, save a hundred bux, and use 4 months power just the same, run the risk just the same ..and harvest much less than if u had a strain perhaps that was bought to suit your needs. I think that replicates itself right through this issue...maybe?.... but Chronmaster has a gret point of the heat by reducing the over-all number of lights and perhaps the ballast, maybe not overheating the plants, but adding heat somewhere just the same.

But lately I've come to consider those things might be better off using cooltubes, better ventilation etc...

I just know I'm gonna buy one and try it one day (not for quiet some time though I imagine), I want to see just how close you can get the light down on the heads. Has anyone used light rails (or any movers i suppose) and then also used other methods for getting the lights down lower, rather than speaking of extra space so much? I'm just wondering anyone who's used both, what they make of it all rom that angle? Maybe cooltubes and so can get a light just as low? Or are light rails superior for that?

I'd be keen to know how you go in the long run flowerchild.

cheers

Hi rob,

Got a "Sun circle Jupiter2" on a 1.8m rail with 1k hanging about 20cm from the tops....the reflector that`s on it (MK3) just touches the tall`st plant.

Could run 1600w or even 2k(maybe) :sleepyhead: in the space thats lit (2.75x2.4m).......ventilated by 2x 8" fans attached to a thermostat.....

The thermostat probe sits in direct light just above the canopy and the fans are hardly on, thats because there is`nt really any hot spot from the light always moving....... :scratchin:

Hope that helps mate

Thanks for the replies guys. My room is near exact the same size as the one you have Chronmasta but I'm only using half of it. Power consumtion is more of an issue than heat. I'm running two 8" centrifugal fans through carbon filters, one 24/7 and the other on a thermostat set to come on at 28c which works excellent. I've seen one mover that can hang 3 lights off it, is that like the one you have Chronmasta? I'm thinking of either going that way with 2 x 400w HPS and one 400w MH or a rail on either side of the room with a 600w HPS on each. Would there be much difference in yeild compared to just going 4 x 600w hps .

ps. Being able to get the lights closer to the top of the plants hadn't occured to me. Do you think that would make up for the reduced watts.
