picture resizing enlarging reducing

grok

Recommended Posts

i want to be able to reduce the size of my pictures down to 100kb or so AND when i post them in a thread keep them big (not thumbnail size) >:(

the only way i know to do this is to upload them into 'my albums' and then 'insert image' into the thread..but sometimes this doesnt work!..hehe..also i cant remove pics from 'my album' i understand this is so we dont get dead links....that makes sense.

. I'm not very computer savvy lol ...i only learned how to upload pictures from a digicam onto my computer and then onto OZ Stoners when i joined this community.

i have read nuggests thread on picture resizing which is great but it doesnt have info on reducing the kilobyte size of your picture and still being able to post large pics(visually large but kilobyte small) in your thread..which is what i want to do.. lol

if anyone knows of a way of doing this and can explain it well i would like to hear.

if anyone knows of any links that will help me that would be great too..

..thanks everyone lol

XnView will let you alter the size without changing the dimensions. You just open up the pic in xnview, choose File>Export, and adjust the size slider and save. It also does other stuff like removing the exif data or resizing/cropping etc. It's free too.

I haven't posted many pics here yet but I think to have them stay full sized in a thread you'd embed them into the post using bbcode/"insert image" and use the address of the full sized photo in the code, instead of using the form where you upload them into your post or whatever. I'm not good at eplaining so hopefully you get the jist of what I mean lol

Essentially you want to lower the resolution , aswell as the physical size of the image , to do this you generally look for a quality level setting when you save your edited images shrinking an image does change the exact pixel size that the image takes up however when shrunk it doesn't take away from much of the detail it just crams it into a smaller space.

I use photoshop and or gimp because they are what is available to me already , but ALLOT of image editors have a quality option when saving to jpeg so have a look around whatever you use for resizing currently and see if you are presented with the option to lower the quality of the image . once you find the option just tinker around with it untill your happy with the results

if you can't find the option in whatever your using have a look for my Gimp tutorial it is a free image manipulation tool that is pretty on par with your large commercial products like photoshop and paintshop pro
