Great doco on History chanell

Just watched a fantasic doc on History ch. called "Dope Fiend's Paradise". It's a broad view of all drugs gong through the phases of becomming illegal.

 

how race was the main motive, I understand better than I ever have, jsust what the Harrison Tax act was for. I mean I always knew it was to bann drugs, but just why they needed a tax act to do so.

it was becuase it was constitutinally, and as I've always said, historically unique that a society ever ruled what a person could put into their body.

 

It dealt much to do with opaite laws, but they touched on everything including grass and acohol prohibition.

 

Interesting facts raise werre that the first people adversely effected as criminal by the new wave of laws making drugs illegal were doctors, due to very hard to discern vaiguely writen legislation about prescribing traditional rugs as medicines. 5000 doctors went to jail in the first ten years and were almost entriely the collective of those arrested for dru laws.

By 1923, wholey 50% of all prisoners in Levinwirth prison wee there for drug possesion offenses. 1st offense was 2-5 years, 2nd offence was 5-10 years 3d offence was 10-20 years.

 

Just masses of intersting facts that give a very good overview of the ignorance of drug law policy, where it never existed before. Not perocial dealing with just pot, just opaites, coke or booze, it took a very broad but detailed view of why all this becme policy, how and the progressive BS that enabled it all.
