Liberty snd Democrasy Party

Recommended Posts

I like what they say about civil liberties and freedom but I would never vote for them as I disagree with virtually everything else they stand for. We had a discussion about them before the last election.

yep. IIRC they give preferences to the Liberals. Do-Not-Want!

The Greens' preferences goto Labor.

Both the Greens and the LDP were on the bottom of each other's voting preferences list. They really hate eachother, which is funny considering they ideologically have some stuff in common (more social freedoms). But the preferences give it away: LDP is really the champion of free enterprise, they are primarily BUSINESS libertarians - thus their preferences went to the pro-big-business Liberals.

The Greens however gave preferences to Labor, thus they primarily favored progressive social reforms which were big on the agenda this election (work-choices).

Not to mention the obvious Green streak Rudd seems to have, with the Kyoto Protocol and all that.

LDP probably caught the attention of everyone else like me following the American Ron Paul bandwagon.

But i think in America - Ron Paul would do great as it seems corporations are holding all the strings and using the government as a tool to get what they want - these strings need to be severed wherever possible as it's fucking up everything - thus Ron Paul yay. Whereas in Australia i'd say this was less the case, pollys are still in the pockets of the biggest businesses (eg: mining), but it does not seem as outof control as America. In America, the corporate interests such as the Military Industry seems to need the government to help it get what it wants - by declaring wars etc. But in Australia i'd say the biggest corporate interests (ie: mining) already have what they want - and government regulations are the only thing slowing them down. Thus i think LDP would give corporations even more power - they would be effected much more than the extra liberties they promice to individuals (which would also be "yay" - but businesses would be shouting "yay" a lot louder). So as far as pro-big-business goes, LDP are like super-Liberals.

That's how i see it anyways.
