Stems growing funny

Hey all, I have a few 3 week old plants and the leaves on em are huge, stems nearly an inch thick already.

The problem is that the new stems are growing straight UP right next to the centre stem and actually hitting the leaves above them, they won;t grow out cuz the leaves are blocking all the light. Do i cut the leaves that are blocking the view or will the new stems puch there way through?

g'day; move the light closer.dont worry about amount of leaf, leave all green leaf on plant.
