Help please cupboard on fire

The passive inlets are about 250 X 100. Two on either side of the cabinet.

 

The temp of the room was about 28 C when a reading was taken but it was dropping because that was almost immediatly after taking the thermometre out of the cupboard.

 

It seems it is direct heat from the lamp itself. Hot air is being exausted since the room itself doesnt seem too warm - it feels almost the same as the rest of the unit.

Can you vent directly into the room's exhaust fan, with a sealed connection so it all exits the room? You need to get rid of that heat with high airflow, not just out of the cabinet but out of that room. Then as long as your intakes are large enough so they're not restricting airflow, and you've got good movement across the bulb with a few oscillating/12V fans (or a cooltube) and good movement throughout the cabinet and can keep the window slightly ajar for fresh, cool air you should be ok.

 

What Luke suggests is important - you want to measure the temperature difference between the air entering your cabinet at the inlets vs. what is being exhausted. That gives you how many degrees above ambient your bulb is causing, and by playing with the variables of airflow, inlet and exhaust sizes you'll be able to minimise this difference and more closely approach ambient temperatures. Then as long as you've got fresh, cool air entering the cabinet you'll be fine.

I know there is hot air exhausting from the room as the room stays a fairly constant temp. I think the main problem is the heat getting trapped in the cabinet. I am going to get a cooltube and reconfigure the venting. If that doesnt work then I will drop down to a 250 W.

 

Anyone know a good place to get cooltubes from? And if there is much difference between the 400mm model and the 500mm model ?

First thing is you don't have the odor sok hooked up in the best way, perhaps a symptom of your growspace being so small. Its better to suck the air through the odor sok which is placed in the growspace, then its easy to vent that hot air direct to outside the room.

 

What is the airtemp outside the growbox in the laundry? If you can't keep this to 25 or below during light time you have no chance. Maybe you have to look at timing your light cycles so you are running through the night and early morning to keep temps acceptable.

 

A cooltube will not only help keep the temp down in the grow room but it will help getting the hot air out of the laundry. When you rig the cooltube I'd suggest ducting the exhaust through a sealed connection to outside the room the cabinet is in.

 

If all this doesn't work, you may just have to invest in an airconditioner. You can still grow reasonable bud in temps around 35 degrees, its just not ideal.

i have to agree with there not being enuff air like ozzie said and you need to be sucking thr heat out not blowing it onto your plants. get it out to the ventilation and you prolly need to get a bigger fan and hose too so it has a better chance of cooling things down. the odour soke is going to bottleneck things so if you can get another that would help too.

a 250mm fan should be more than enough to keep a small grow area like that under control...if it isnt doing the job, imo that means some or all of the hot air isnt being blown away from the landry so fresh air can get sucked in. if thats the case the room will continually heat up and adding anything, even an air conditioner will only make the problem worse :D

 

make sure that the air getting sucked away from the plants is never able to return to the plants again and you should have no problems with your temps again lol

Hi, I have a cupboard of these dimensions:

 

800 X 530 X 1700 with an extra attachment of 750 X 390 X 60.

 

I have installed a 400W HPS lamp with bat-wing reflectors. A 150mm exhaust vent running to a inline Axial Allvent fan with a 150mm X 600mm odur sok attatchment.

 

When I switched on the lamp at first it was 24.6 C and 79% RH. Now after 1 hour and 10 minutes it is 41.5 C and 68% RH.

 

The cupboard is located in the laundry. There is no external ventilation apart from the normal exhaust fan which is directly above where the odor sok is suspended.

 

I am thinking the 400 W is too much.

 

That 41.5 is with both the cupboard doors and the laundry door open with an osc fan behind me with these photos.

 

Any advice is appreciated.

Going by the photos, if that is the fan in the left hand top corner of the cupboard. I would say that the cupboard is pressurizing (ie it is sucking in cool air from the bottom but not pumping the hot air out) i would try cutting a hole in the cupboard door the same size as the fan and see how that goes.
