Ok ok, so "Mr Organic" what medium were you growing in? Surely not any of the 'Evil Hydro'?

I've had sciarid fly infestations numerous times indoors but using the same medium outdoors, perlite and coco, they don't seem to bother, my reasoning has always been that the soil has been well draining and the rootzone has a healthy (dair I say it 'organic') rhizosphere happenin, even with hydro nutes.

I don't dispute that type of bacterial control will work elsewhere, my smart arse comment was probably a bit off the mark, but I doubt it could work in most indoor setups.

How bad an infestation are we talking here that was wiped out?

Also, isn't a maggot/pupae different from the adult?

share some of my experance with yah

i have a cert in agg since 79

and i study cannabis extensivly

i was taught dis methord at agg collage for blow fly strike in sheep

and remembered some1 saying it works for all insects

it just kinda stuck

that was the first time i tried it on scarid

i have used it pon many insects pests with great suscess

when i used pure coco peat for me medium

as u say out door is np

but me indoor system suffered badlly

i keep loosing seedlings and clones

i tried a few other tricks first

a fungi that attacks the lavi in the medium

and sticky fly paper and traps

nothing seam to work

 

they just seam to get worse

i had bou 50 adult flys in me traps

at this stage

so i made some spray out of them and it worked fine

i sprayed the pots and grow medium too

once

and that was it

gone

yer

all into me bloom room which had 30% coco peat

again

made fresh spray

sray 1 time

byby scarid

and the never came back

but i never grow in pure coco peat no more

i suspect you are right bout that

this is biological warfare

and the same microbs that attack and break down scarids also attack the larvi

it is only the very early stages

where the microbes are being primed and readyed to go and rapidly multiply

the juce that charges up the microbes is what we want to spray

it is filled with info that

cause that some how convinces all microbes to attack scarid fly and larvi

it fasanates me

as i overstand it

it is like spreding miss information data that tries to convince all microbes it comes it contact with

there is a glut of scrid fly and larvi so attack and eat dem

nature is a wonderfull ting to work with

but to fight nature is suiside

chemicals is a losing battle

we all hate to give dem more money and power

the reason for np scarids out door is because

 

1...dem love de compost heap more

 

2....irey soil management practices

 

if you mix part composted organic matter with yah potting mix you are asking for trouble

so if yah only put fully composted organic matter in de pot mix you will not hav any scarids to deal wid

 

 

3....other preditors eat dem and keep the population in check
