Perth man facing drug charges in Bali

Recommended Posts

A 39-YEAR-OLD Perth man has reportedly been caught by police in Bali in possession of 3.5 grams of hashish.

Police caught the man, who cannot be named, with the drug in his trousers at his house on January 12, according to a report published on the Indonesian-language detik.com website.

The man will be charged with drug offences and could face a maximum of 10 years in jail and a $60,000 fine, it said.

Police were quoted as saying the man was not a member of a drug syndicate but was a user and had admitted undergoing rehabilitation in Australia 10 years ago.

The man arrived in Bali at the end of 2007 and planned to go home at the end of this month, the report said.

i feel sorry for the guy, but no stoner should ever step foot in bali and intend on scoring. you might as well just walk into the local cop shop and admit to killing a dozen people as the punishment would be less in the end :sdj:

That's fuckin ridiculous..

Everyone should just boycott Bali and go somewhere else for their holidays. Until they see that their draconian laws and penalties are affecting their tourism industry nothing is likely to change.

After all the dramas that have occured there in recent years I fail to understand why anyone would want to go there anyway, especially when there are so many alternatives.

Bali will certainly never make it into any of my travel plans. Sooner go to Fiji, Bora Bora, or back to Hawaii.

People should have got the message by now, Bali is not like it used to be.

The penalties are just too high now and whats more the cops are going out of their way to bust people.

They are trying to appease the radical muslims after the Bali bombings.

It also seems that over there the police don't need search warrrants or probable cause to bust in and search someone, they will bust in to your house just on spec or the words of an informant.

These people need to wake up, it's not like it is still the seventies over there when a blind eye was turned to such things if you were a westerner and spending cash in the local economy.

I read a book by an Aussie guy who was in prison over there and believe me the prisons are very rough.

For example they did not have proper toilets; the toilet was an open sewer that was flushed out once a month or so.

When someone wanted to visit the toilet they had to take someone with them armed with a big stick to keep the rats at bay because when they went to the toilet the hungry rats that inhabited the toilet sewer would attack them.

I think some people still think that because they are westerners they are above the laws over there, such as Shapelle Corby being stupid and arrogant enough to think that she can walk through customs carrying over 4 kilos of pot.

Sheer arrogance.

Anyone who gets busted with pot or any drugs in Bali now I have little sympathy for.
