How accurate are new roadside drug tests?

Recommended Posts

I've seen the road side tests in action but haven't been tested yet - touch wood!

That reminds me of a close call I had a couple of months back.

A mate called me up, so I had a spliff, slung a couple of elbows in a shopping bag and threw them in the passenger seat of the car, and trundled off down the road. Making good progress, then I get to a bit where the traffic's starting to slow down and back up a little. Couldn't see what was happening up ahead (around the bend), no side roads so it didn't matter anyway.

I get round the bend and the cops have got the drug bus set up on the side of the road, testing everyone. I'm sitting there looking at the gear, thinking I'm just screwed, no point panicking, it's just over. Sitting in the traffic, moving forward, cop is waving cars into the queue for testing, wondering how I can be so calm when I'm about to get arrested. Getting close to the front of the line, only one car in front of me, then the beginning of the end.

And then the queue filled up and the cop waved us past.

Closest call I've ever had.

Thanks Mozz, looks like it's time to move back to the territory!

$200 for 1st offence sounds better than $1050 in this police state

Notice that only truckies get random testing up there and other drivers are only tested after an accident or when driving erratically. Definitely more sensible than the shit they're putting on down here.

I wonder if NT cops, like the rest of Australia's hypocritical police forces, won't put themselves up for random testing

as far i can see that is the biggest problem it can cause. almost makes the fine insignificant. i am assuming if you test positive the police will search your car very thoroughly. that would suck....

same exact thing happened to a mate of mine. so its definately an issue to think about when doing a drop off. its even worth doing a scout run first if its a likely day or time. might seem a bit full on, but you wouldnt say that if you went through a drug bus on your scout run.

lets face it. getting busted with a quantity for the first time equals a lifetime of hassel. its always a bonus to have no record.

 pmsl yep it did happen to a mate of yours... they wouldn't have had to search too hard...

I'm more worried about the cops finding a couple of elbows and deciding to search my home. THAT would be bad.

The cops always set those sorts of things up in the same locations. After that, I go via an alternative route that bypasses any potential site...

I heard a police guy being interviewed about roadside drug testing in Qld.

They had tested 1200 drivers with 23 positive results. Eight of those were truck drivers and most were on speed.

They had just completed testing 260 truck drivers on a far western highway.

They got one positive result.

The cops said they have noticed a lot of drivers have a really nice breath!

(must be the result of Listerine or something similar.)

They said mouth washes were a waste of time as they didn’t affect the test.

Considering about 2 million Aussies use Marijuana they are getting a low strike rate. And that is great news.

But then cops aren’t tested I believe.

It's a bit off topic, but reading about all these close calls reminds me of a day this fella I knew from nth west of Brisbane told me he'd grown a few pound and didn't know what to do next. I duno ho I even met him, but he was bankrupt from a nursery he had that went bad, and heard about all thismoney he could make with grass. So anyway what he grew was total trash, but I agreed I'd look at it and let him know what to do.

He throws the lot in the car in a foam broccoli box, no bags nothing. Not even a lid on the box, just a blanket draped over it. and drives the 70 ks to my place.

he get's pulled over for speeding, and then the car doesn't start.

Incredibly, with the reaking of what admittedly very well cured but stringy heads - the cops had to push start the car for him :bongon:.

Mind you I never wanted to have anything to do with him again.

cheers

rob
