The Drug War - Canadian Style

Hi everybody

 

This week once more, I would like to bring your attention to the

Canadian Courts. There have been three very important cases from

across the Country that have made headlines because of their

connection to cannabis.

 

One out in Vancouver, British Columbia involving the Victoria Island

Compassion Society and two of their growers who were charged with

trafficking cannabis is just tragic. Part way through the Trial the

Judge involved died of a heart attack! Now the VICS has a much bigger

problem on their hands I'm afraid. Our Conservative Government seems

to rear it's ugly head again. Please read on for more:

I will definitely keep everyone posted in this very interesting and

precedent setting case from Vancouver Island. We can only hope that

this turns out in favour of the VICS and that the new judge will take

into consideration all of the passionate and heartfelt testimony that has

been out forth so far.

On another note, I was asked to be an “Expert Witness†at a trial

involving two brothers from the “Church of the Universe†here in

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, a Religious sect, who’s followers choose

to use cannabis as their sacrament and in their daily lives. This was

going to be a Jury Trial which was a lucky break we thought as there

were three of us asked to testify. We thought for SURE we stood a

decent chance.

 

One of the Reverend Brothers, Walter Tucker, is soon to celebrate his

75th Birthday and is facing time in prison under our new, soon to

pass, mandatory minimum sentencing and could face a difficult time in

jail. They could get a minimum of 6 months for less than fifty

dollars worth of cannabis each! That is just appalling!!! And in

CANADA!

 

After sitting in the Court waiting room for hours, the Lawyer for one

of the Reverend Brothers, (Peter Boushy for Brother Michael

Baldassaro), came out and told us that the Judge had ruled all of our

evidence "Irrelevant"! Of all things! The Lawyer was shocked and

visibly upset by this call from the Judge. All in front of the Jury!

Not good for the Reverend Brothers. They will be heading back to

Court on January 24th, 2008 so I will keep you posted on that Case as
