I'd love to sit down with a politician, any politician, and debate the "War on Drugs". Conditions -

I be provided with an amnesty/immunity against prosecution, for the event.

I smoke one bong for every standard drink that the politician consumes.

Must have at least one bong/standard drink every 15 minutes.

List of questions/agenda/topic discussions to be prepared before hand, that we both agree on.

We debate untill the first one falls asleep/passes out, gets violent, becomes incoherent, admits defeat etc.

Cameras roll from beginning to end, with a live stream on the web.

Public have a chance to vote (ie big brother, survivor) on which drug should be legal.

I would bet my left nut that by the end of the event, I would still make sense and be able to provide proof to any of my claims. I also bet that the politician would make an absolute fool of himself. I bet I would not become violent. I bet I would be able to listen to them and respond accordingly, with truth and common sense.

I bet that I would win hands down.

<edit> I don't think alcohol should be illegal, but I do think there should be an advertising ban similar to cigarettes. Some of the money they use on the "War on Drugs" should be instead put towards alcohol education, and to change societies attitude to the misuse/dangers of alcohol.

hey peaceful i think you might mean....how do we make people feel the way we feel?....eg.. how do we get a non-stoner to understand how smoking weed makes us feel?..or a non-drinker to understand how we feel when drunk?

to understand another you first have to have the desire to do so...you need to temporarily stop any thoughts that would negate that desire...you need to walk a mile in their mocassions...even if its only in your imagination....in other words you need a similair experience in life that led to similair emotional states...then you can as they say nowadays..RELATE...to them...aka create a connection that enables understanding of their emotional state...this is known as empathy or compassion...it is in effect a form of love....

do you want to understand another?..or do you want another to understand you?....with the first you have a chance since you are in control of yourself..with the second your chances are much much smaller...for instance even that celebrity that the christians worship...Jesus Christ wasnt very good at getting people to understand him...in fact he was so misunderstood and disliked by some people that he was killed...so if you're holding out for universal popularity dont hold your breath!!...in life some people will like you and others wont....the same with plants...its known as companion planting....just accept some peope will like you and some will dislike you.(that includes people on this website)..and others will be relatively neutral....i mean you dont like everyone do you?...and you're not meant to....so relax take a toke on your peace pipe and be at peace with the world... :P

in short...trying to make someone do something or feel something is a form of control...instead of trying to control the world around you i suggest allowing people to do what they want and be what they want....total allowance and acceptance of people and all their quirky behaviour..(if some behaviour of theirs is unacceptable and harmful and crossed your boundaries then you need to remove them from your life in a harmless way...no blowing 'em away!!)..to do this you need non-attachment to people [what im currently working on!!] ..only then can you totally accept them the way they are....living this way will tremendously increase your levels of freedom, peace, joy, lightheartedness, all the good stuff!!..and by following your passions you will feel a sense of fulfillment...

:P power and :P to y'all

right on grok :bongon:

And if Jesus christ was around now he would be killed again, he was an activist,

Preaching ONE God, ONE Church for all mankind in a religiously tolarant society (Romans) and that is just was not smart.

isn't that what our war on terrosim is about. One lot want their god, the only god for everyone.

There are terrific posts on this thread and yes, there are some bright cookies here.

Back in the late 70's we really believed cannabis would have been at least decriminlised by now. Truth be told we thought it would be legal and big name cigarette companies would be selling it unders names like Acapulco Gold.

I remember discussing this.

Now in the year 2008 I'm starting to wonder if the state I'm living in is on the way to becoming a police state.

We are losing our privacy in every which way with so many people, doctors, public servants and other assorted creeps wanting to peer into our lives.

When the doctor suggests a blood test I wonder what they screen for that they don't tell you about.

And who the hell decided to make cannabis illegal anyway?

Wile i was back in Syd for xmas this year one of the biggest things that blew me away was my mother at the age of 62 asking me to try pot.

The 1st night she told me that she wanted to try pot she was 3/4 pissed so i said no to her as the odds are that she will green out and it will make her sick and never want to try it again because she will be to scard because it will make her sick again.

So i gave it a week and said to her why do u want to try it and her come back was.

Well u 2 boys have smoked it as long as she can remember (me and my lil bro that is) and since i have been working with ppl that are dieing from one thing or another and about the only thing that can help them lead a normal life it eating pot or smoking it i need to know what it dose to the body so i can tell ppl i have been there and i know were they are coming from.

I wont go into it but my mother said it was one of the best things she has done as she now knows were the ppl that are in pain all the time (and my mum knows pain from the hell she has gone through) from one thing or another that is killing them that pot can help in so mayn diffrent ways it aint funny.

And just to think at one point my mother through all pot smokers were the scum of the earth until she saw the good it can do for ppl.

I know this lil off the topic of the booze thing sorry all...

Ozzie that is one of the nicest stories I have ever heard...give ya mum a hug from me would ya!

Ok back to the topic. Trying to explain pot prohibition by using booze as an example has never worked. Those who don't smoke can't see the similarities.

Indeed liquor was illegal in the US for quite a few years and all that did was to create a black market and make some really nasty ppl wealthy. Kinda like pot prohibition. But the lesson was never learned.

and....

Never try to teach a pig to sing. All it does is waste your time, and it annoys the pig!

Some Granny wisdom for ya!

Some good philosopy here. The part about control very relevant. Not only to us individually, but to the laws that attempt to control what substance we use in our own bodies/minds.

Stubby holder on each arm, belt buckle, tshirt, cap with cans and straws, gelly shots, lie backs, every flavoured drink spirited, beers, wines...

Bongs banned.
