Congratulations to the Australian public for finally seeing through Howards lies. He can take his "aspirational nationalism", work choices, zero tolerance, and all his other ideas and piss off. It is going to be so good not to have to see and hear him.

A special mention about Bronwyn Bishop. I hope I never see or hear from you again.

Alexander Downer, you are an embrrasment as foreingn affairs minister.

Rudd faces a hostile senate for the first 8 months so don't expect to see anything happen soon. After that pray that family first doesn't hold the balance of power.

There were a lot of Green preferences sent Big Kev's way, at the very least that might put Medical MJ a bit closer to reality

Doubt it. I'm with pipeman:

don't expect Rudd to help out on drug law reform. He's a a conservative, a religious conservative at that. A fact he doesn't highlight too much cause so many labour voters are lefties.

Yep, too right.... Rudd's position on drug law reform is obvious by what he doesn't say about it.

However, I have some faith that Peter Garrett's 'gaffe' about once Labor was elected, 'we'll change everything,' wasn't really a jocular comment at all. You can bet that some of the more progressive Labor policies will have been downplayed during the campaign Don't expect to see Rudd doing anything controversial until the new Senate sits in June of next year. He'll face Howard's hostile Senate until then. Gonna be a shitfight if Rudd wants anything to happen.

Although I didn't vote, I am glad that Mr Howard has been thrown out. Don't forget Mr Howard to take that old fat Bitch Bronwyn Bishop with you, on your way out the door. Although nothing much will change, at least that fat bitch is taken out of the equation.

Crristopher Pyne, fuck off. Peter Costello, fuck off. Bronwyn Bishop, Fuck off. Tony Abbot, Fuck off. John Howard, Fuck off.

Pyne kept his seat, as did Costello, B Bishop and Abbott. Sucks, but true.

Australia has spoken.

Yeah, but you didn't. Nice that you like the result, but if you don't participate, you're just another cork in the sea.

Political situations have massive inertia- when at rest, they stay at rest. If you want politics to move, you have to give a little push. Doesn't help that voters have been sold a particular false story about cannabis since about 1934.

I just hope Rudd doesn't continue to take us down the road to becoming another US state and that the Greens get the balance of power in the senate to make sure he keeps his promises.

:)

You got your wish. It will take the ALP working in coalition with the Greens often and Family First occasionally to pass their legislation. The Greens will be pushing Labor to the left. FF will whore out to anyone for minor gains, but those will have to suit their right-wing agendae.

The Greens have subsumed the 'traditional left' vote from the now defunct Democrats. I think that like me, an awful lot of ppl have voted Green based on their overall policy stances, not necessarily on the Greens' strong suits like environmental causes.

I definitely voted Green to hand them the balance of power in the Senate. I'm personally not keen on hugging too many trees, but I think it's OK that the Greens do it. However, Labor in power at fed and state level presents the same hubris pitfall which sunk Howard, when he thought he could get away with selling workers for a dime a dozen to the millionaires with WorkChoices.

Congratulations to the Australian public for finally seeing through Howards lies. He can take his "aspirational nationalism"

Getting people to vote against their own interests is a great trick if you can pull it off. I can't tell you how many ppl I know who make $15/hr who voted for Howard, somehow believing that the (mainly coal-driven) economic boom was somehow gonna 'trickle down' to them. Instead, they got Mr Free Market, who reckoned that Aussies should work for Shanghai pay rates and conditions.

Bill Clinton fucked American workers with NAFTA- he dropped the tariffs between US, CDN & Mexico... so the jobs went where the free market demanded only the lowest pay rates. Nice if you're a Mexican, a bucket of shit if you're a Michigan auto worker with a family and a mortgage. American workers now live hand-to-mouth in 'service' jobs (ya want fries with that?)... some have even emigrated to Mexico!

Howard tried the same thing with WorkChoices- and to their credit, the Australian people said 'no fucking way, mate.'

Just a reminder of what we have got rid of. I heard Howards speech to the national press club the other day and here is an exert.

"We have maintained and intensified our unrelenting war on illicit drugs. We have adopted a zero tolerance approach, derided by many in the community when it was first introduce, when it was fashionable to argue that there was nothing wrong with certain recreational drugs. Now common sense and medical experience has told us the opposite is the case." John Howard, thurs 22 nov. 2007 national press club.

if anyone really think the country will be better off under a Rudd government theyre kidding them selves.. elections are a complete farce.. a joke.. to make you actually believe you have a say in what goes on in our lives.. lets not forget.. this so called upstanding christian is also a freemason... just like johnny.. and all other PM's before him.. freemasonry comes before god and country.. so i ask.. are we really going to be better off.. or did the masonry just retire one leader and elect another...

Rudd says hes very different from Howard.. that i believe .. but at the end of the next ten year stint we will all be cursing Rudd like we're cursing howard now.. and new liberal leader will be elected and the hopes of nation will be revitalized once more.. its an on going circle of deceit.. theyre all liars and only really have their own agenda in sight... it has nothing to do with the common folk.. thats just the smoke screen.. "we are here for the people".. and when has that ever happened before in history... it doesnt.. the people dont count and they dont give a shit..

lets not forget you need to be lying cunt to be a politian.. how much of a lying cunt do you need to be to make it to the top... well of course youd have to be the biggest and best lying cunt.. wouldnt you...

The biggest loser in the world right now is JOHN HOWARD, FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA!!!

Never before has our country hated and thoroughly opposed their leader so much that we have crushed his government in every state and territory, as well as kicking him out of his own home-town seat.

Australia does not want John Howard.

Bennelong does not want John Howard.

This is the first time an Australian Prime Minister has lost his seat in 78 years. He was a monster. And above all he was a liar. He broke his promises on too many issues.

He said he would protect Medicare, but he destroyed it, making it much harder and more expensive for sick working-class Australians to get the medical treatment they deserve.

He promised not to increase premiums, yet they are now 21% higher than they were before he came into power.

He promised to reduce University fees, which are now higher than ever.

He said he would never introduce a Goods & Services Tax. Then when he did, overnight, everything in the country went up in price by 10%, including public transport.

Petrol taxes doubled, yet so did emissions.

Foreign debt increased over 90%.

He halved the amount of job and outreach centres in the outback.

He swore that Iraq had WMDs as the basis for sending in our troops. Iraq had no WMDs. He claimed that Iraq was building nuclear weapons, but they weren't.

He used hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to fund his own campaign of lies and slander against the opposition.

Hundreds of thousands of disabled pensioners and carers had their payments reduced.

He has left us with a nation where the ecconomic gap between the rich and the poor is greater than ever before. He has left a country stripped of its natural resources in order to make a quick buck. He has left our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has left us with prisons full of non-violent "drug-offenders" (too many guys caught with a few buds of weed on them), while overdose victims of harder drugs are left to die with no medical or psychological support, and the high risk of incarceration for their personal mistakes.

He has turned Australia into the country with the highest Global Warming emissions per capita, and refused to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.

Is our ecconomy stronger now? NO! The coal and uranium giants are sitting happy though. The rich all have shiny, new, black SUVs to drive around in, but the rest of us have been screwed. And we fought back!

GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH!

Congratulations KEVIN RUDD, our new Prime Minister! Let's hope we can look forward to a fresh, new, sustainable ecconomy, more productive workers, better-educated students and a healthier planet!
