growing slow in my growbox sucks

wood ash, limestone or hydrated lime is what is generally used I believe, but you said that you are already using the lime so maybe your medium is just crap???

Your fans are probably not doing anything towards your temps - that's a big heat problem when the shed is in the sun. If there is no where else to put the grow (or the shed) then you could look at insulating it with another exterior/interior and some insulation like wall batts. I don't even know that a large centi will help because the air getting sucked in will probably be damn hot as well.

Naturally I don't know your situation but if you only have 1 plant then perhaps it might like to live in the laundry etc....

Got to get inventive man because the temps aren't about to go down...

Jimbo

To cool the shed get hold of an old piece of carpet or similar large enough to cover the roof and overhang two sides by about 45cm (18") and keep it damp, I used the grey water from my reverse osmosis filter to run drippers to cool a 3m x 3m (10' x 10') shed that way for the start of last summer. I would say another cause of heat build up would be exhausting your grow room into the shed too, this needs to be ducted out of there or it just gets dragged back in as warm CO2 depleted air which is not very good for promoting growth either.

The critters around the base of the plant sound like fungus gnats, if you see any small fly buzzing around, thats the sciarid fly that they grow into.

Using soil/potting mix, even coco indoors will attract them, as they feed on decomposing veg matter etc

They will spread pythium as they feed and nest through the root ball.

Save yourself some time and tears, axe the plants, get a decent medium.

Your shed will be ok to grow in, even at 40 degrees as long as you can keep the root temperature in the low 20's. Keeping a large, low pot or res on the concrete should be ok, cutting the pot/res into the dirt will work also.

... hope the fans are sucking air from the highest part of the shed too?

Mate, can only type with one hand, the other just had carpel tunnel op yesterday. throw shade cloth over the shed, it makes a big difference, trim it up to look tidy and no one will know the difference! on the fence side down low put in 2 x vents [plastic snap vent from bunninngs] either side and that should help with heat.

i'm a first time grower too and mega paranoid as i have my in-laws living next door! my mrs is cool with my deal as its real quiet. its all in an old drying cabinet with venting through the bottom.

i seem to grow dwarfs as well. i have 400 watt son-t-agro, temp at 24-28 max, ph at 6, using growth tech nutes[10 ml per litre] and 1 drop per litre superthrive, small 2 speed fan is dead quiet on #1 setting.

i use perlite/coco mix, potting mix, hand watering every 2 days, the oldest plant went into flower under flouro's an i'm trying to make it grow bigger under the son-t. don't throw your final trim away, make oil..its top stuff to use with your crappy mull or leaf and tip or just plain leaf. love the stuff..mega bent can't type no more..go for it dude!

you should buy yourself a hydronic pH kit off ebay if need be although the hydroshops will probably be cheaper if you have one fairly close that is. it should only set you back $15-20 and it will come with pH up, pH down and a pH checker which will keep you going for many crops unless you use a huge tank of water in which case it'll probably only last a couple of grows, but it will be one of the best investments you'll ever make regardless.

next i would invest in some decent bug killer, i recommend maverik which is made by yates, but there are other organic means of disposing of bugs so long as you know what they are.

but the best thing i can recommend is getting yourself some digital pictures of your garden as they'll be the best thing for us to help diagnose your plant problems.

Thanks heaps for ya help.I cant take any pics cause i dont have a camera and my stupid computer wont let me upload pics from my phone. But iv been thinking and the only way i think i could cool it down a bit would be to run ducting from the inlet fan to out the window bringing in cool air.But i have a neighbor that would notice that and wonder what it is.
