Hey all

Anyone heard of a strain called California Orange? It is around a 12 week plant, supposed to be an awesome, high yielding plant with enormous potential and a heavy stone that lasts for ages... Any opinions on this strain appreciated.

I'm going to have White Widow and Big bud in my room along for the next grow with my slow ass but reliable(unknown) strain which takes 14 weeks plus. This will be good spreading harvests out so I don't end up locked up for fucking hours dealing with the lot at once...

Cheers

I grew it years ago; I got the seed from Dutch Passion seedbank.

Not an awesome yielder, just average.

Some of the phono's leant to the sativa side; there were a couple that were shorter and more squat.

I remember it was a bit sativa like. Not like an actual sativa but leaning in that direction.

I actually didn't get to smoke it; I let the plants go to seed so I would have heaps of seeds.

I didn''t use clones in those days; I used to buy some seeds and plant them out in spring and by about november I would have heaps of seeds for the summer grow.

The seeds I got from these were never used; I forget the reason why.

But the main thing I remember about the California Orange is it's smell.

It really does smell like oranges. Really strong orange smell.

I remember thinking at the time that is could be used to make perfume, it smelt so nice.

I even used to take cuttings home and put them in a vase of water because they made the house smell so nice.

I currently have a few Calizahr, from Chimera, going.

They are a cross between California Orange and a Shishkaberry Red, which is a red Afghani.

Supposed to be a better yield than straight California Orange.

Not sure how they will yield yet, will have to wait and see.

They smell a bit orangey at the moment, but more of a creamy orange smell.

Not as orangey as the straight Cali O.

They are not as indica as I thought they would be, considering they are half Afghani. I suspect they may have been backcrossed to the Cali O again.

i gave my father some california orange x white widow seeds to grow out in perth for when ever i visited and it was a pretty damn nice smoke considering the harsh conditions it was grown in :) even though it was a hybrid, the orange taste was still there, it had really nice buds that looked like it came from a 50/50 hybrid, nice amount of resin and the high lasted hours :)

if your main aim for your grow is to get a tasty strain that takes a few more cones to achieve the same high that you would get from plants bred for potency, then california orange is a strain well worth growing atleast once imo :peace:

As I said, I never got to smoke it, but considering the strain has been kept around for at least 25 years, and considering that Chimera uses it in a few of his crosses, I think we can assume it's potent.

I don't see any evidence to back up your inference that Cali O wasn't bred for potency.

It could be the nicest smelling plant around but if it didn't have the potency then it wouldn't even make it to the seed catalogue, let alone being maintained in clone form for 25+ years.

The White Widow x Cali O and the Skunk x Cali O both sound like excellent crosses.

I have some Calizahr (Cali O x Shishkaberry Red (red afghani) from Chimera going at the moment; good yielders, big buds; the more sativa phenotype smells the most like oranges.

They say eight weeks; it's that now and looks like it's going to be another two weeks; I think I shouldn't have given them that fertilizer two weeks ago; its seems it's making them make more flowers rather than ripening.

The bigger buds would be nice but I would rather they were ready NOW!.

On the bright side they said on the radio that it's going to be a wet summer this year; I bet a lot of guerrilla growers went whoo hoo when they heard that, I sure did.
