Mold reststant and Mold susceptible strains

Recommended Posts

Could you guys help me out in choosing a strain for tropical indoor/outdoor hyg.

Prefer good yielding, indica dominant or of that type with nice flavour.

Similar conditions to summer rains in brissy and sydney but can go on for weeks.

Strains me and my mates have are

Afghan1 - ?

Mango - This works well in the tropical wet lol

Bigbud - ?

HDF - ?

Ak47 - ?

BC Big Bud ? should be better than sensi cause it has more sativa.......?

What about skunk varieties?

What about blueberry?

What strains should I avoid?

Oh yeah and is there any truth that silica helps prevent mold?

Enough questions 4 ya?

Thanks dudes :D

if mould is of a concern i would stay away from anything indica dominate and would aim for a 50/50 hybrid or something leaning a little more towards the sativa scale. really indica dominate strains will produce rock hard buds which are perfect for growing mould and the more sativa dominate you get the less dense the buds are meaning more air will be able to flow around them :D

in my experience silica is a great product for adding a bit of weight, helping with nutrient uptake, etc. but if mould is a major concern i recommend staying away from it lol from what i have seen it makes the individual flowers thicker and hold alot more water so the buds end up more susceptable to catching mould and after checking my bottle of silica just then it pretty much says it does those things minus making the plants more prone to getting infested with mould :D

choosing a strain for you will be next to impossible because there are simply too many out there that would suit what you are after :D personally i think you should aim for a 50/50 hybrid and let it flower a week or 2 longer than whats advertised because then the stone will be alot deeper giving you that indica buzz you are after while reducing the risk of mould. but as for everything else it will depend on the growing conditions, desired yield, flavour and tastes, your budget, etc. so i recommend going window shopping at all the major seedbanks to get a rough idea of what you think would suit your desires and then begin cutting out the lesser quality strains until you have the perfect one

Excellent advice WDC thanks.

Still some 50/50 strains could be more susceptible to others and I dun wanna have to grow em all to find out. There dosnt seem to be much on the subject of mold anywhere.

Would be good to hear from anyone who's had success with flowering hybrid and indica dominant strains during wet periods. Mango is said to be 100% Indica yet it handles the wet up here well.

So please give us your 2c

Well you may have to take the lead from nature in that sativa genes have established themselves where it does rain everyday in the tropics ... its like a physical problem that if the buds are tight dense indicas and they get wet in 80% humidity they dont have much chance of drying the core of the tight bud before another downpour so they are prone to rot/mold ...

maybe you would be looking for a strain that does well in Hawaii, i beleive Sensi has a line called Hawaian indica ?? or some such name maybe worth a look ... or even a holiday to Hawaii and bring some seeds home like Kona Gold, Oahu or Maui Wowie, that would be sick lol

:D
