Can u really Veg 24/7?

Has anyone actually kept lights on 24/7 while vegging? i ask cuz after reading what i have i thought plants need darknees to go through sertian chemical reactions.

Does it really work?

g'day; yes you can veg on 24hr light cycle. some ppl say they get faster growth, i don't notice any great difference myself, i use 18/6 for veg.

Same as Sols and Tom here....tried once, couldnt see much differences.

 

I don't like the idea having the ballasts and the globes running 24/7 for couple or several weeks (depending on what set up you are doing from seeds or clones) during the veggie stage, it just makes me worry bit too much checking all the time to see if the ballasts and the globes aren't getting too over heated or the gets too hot to touch, I just like to have all my electrical parts to have a "cool/rest period"... thats just me in my opinion, I just feel safer and can rest my mind easier while they are on the 18/6 mostly for safety reasons.

I veg under 24hr constant light... I don't think there is much difference though between that and 18/6. I have heard that turning the lights on and off the ballast draws more power than leaving them on constant... Don't know how true this is, but makes sense if the transformer has to power up all the time...

18/6 is the go for lower power bills, Swing has done both there is "hardley" any differance to growth.

 

Swing things the plant is a little more disease resistant on 18/6, than on 24/7 (depending on the strain), because the roots seem to develop better with a dark cycle.

 

Slightly faster growth on 24/7, but nodes are further apart.

i do veg for 24/0, it grows the plant faster and doesnt stretch,

 

I changed to 18/6 then to 12/12 to flower, but Iam trying a dark of 14 hours, I dont know what this will do but i assume it will finish faster?????

 

 

any takers care to help me on my thoughts??

I gotta say, there is absolutely no difference in growth after 16 hours veg light.. However, the ppl who may have noted a differnce in growth are those who prolly grow ruderalis based strains like the Early Girl, Early Pearl, Early Skunk (etc) varieties. With ruderalis varieties, for obvious reasons, they will grow quicker.
