light close enough?

Is my grow light close enough to my seedlings?It is a 250watt.They seem to have slowed down a bit the last 3 days.

It's hard to see how tall the plants are in that pic. It's easier to move the plants than it is the light! Try putting them up on milk crates to get them closer. I usually keep mine about 30-40cm / 12-14" from the light.

Im with granny, bring it down to about 30+ cm from seedlings ..you are trying to replace the sun so make it intense bright light

i havent worked with 250s

but u can always use the back of the hand for best placement

the back of the hand will be happy sitting there the plants will

the hand is hot the plants are hot

i keep 600watts at 50cm and 400s at 30

so i reckon u could get the 250 in closer again

I'm with bil.. a 250w could probably get as close as 15cm without burning, closer if the cabinet is well ventilated.

I tried putting the light about 55cm away and the next day one of the seedlings looked very dehydrated.Leaves were curled downward so i raised the light and gave the seedling a little drink and its fine now.I did the back of the hand thing but at 55cm i couldnt even really feel it at all so i am wondering why this happend.It only felt a bit hot at about 20cm away from top of seedlings.At the moment temp gets to about 22c at most.So i really cant see how this could happen.

maybe u got the light in there to quick

ive found that with hid lights

and plants its best to work in steps and slowely

allowing the plant to adjust to the heat and light strength etc

was ya seedling all freshly watered wen u brang the light down

Yup, when they're young they have to be hardened off...acclimated to new, or harsher surroundings. Little bit at a time, that's why I like using the milk crates to move the plants up or down rather than move the light.
