Australian suppliers sux!

Recommended Posts

Guest Urbanhog

Give us a sample why Aussie suppliers "sux"?

Aussie Hydro shops have done the job for me in the past and now. Maybe you didnt look around Aussie suppliers hard enough?

I am not into these American "high-tech" crap... why get more techninal and complicated when marijuana itself is a "weed"?

Cheers,

Hi hog

The reason I say that is because the products america had on there shelves 5 years ago is only just starting to appear now, in our shops.

The fact is that we (aussie market) are so small prepared to other markets in the world that most manufactures dont even bother with australia.

One example is greenair.com - have a look at there co2 control equipment and climate control and nutrient control equipment, ready made relays etc... it go's on and on.

Sure the basic products are the same in both contries, but they have so much more choice and there price is heaps better.

Yes, I dont like high tech either - but the proof is in the pudding - if you use high tech and get a better/quicker yeild then why not use it.

Frost out..

the problem is with importing and distributing a product fromt he USA here in Australia is one, price the conversion rate sucks you would have to double the price then add import duty and gst. two, power USA is 110v and we are 240v. three, smaller market lets say you make a hydroponics product that only one person is 100000 is going to buy you will sell more then a few to the US market but you wont sell too many to the Australian market. and it costs alot of money to stock items at a wholesale level.

anyway I think the real problem with hydro shops here in oz is that is makes no difference price wise if you order off the internet or walk into your local shop you are paying the same for each item which is wrong when you think about it as the internet should make products alot cheaper as the shops overheads are reduced ie. less staff, less stock on hand (when you get an order you can order from your supplier the same day and sent it out the next), can run the business from home, shed or from a non retail outlet meaning you pay less or no rent.

I was in the importing and wholesale game for more then afew years and let me tell you it does cost alot of money.

look into it maybe you can set up an internet business to supply products that are not in oz yet.

just my 2 cents.

I used to spend a fair bit of time on US mj sites and several items such as Son-T's, hydro grow mediums and systems were much more expensive when you allowed for the exchange rates.

One main area where we have it all over them is in our range of mj specific nutrients, they don't seem to have even one, it is a lock-up offence to sell them in the US, if the cops find a shop selling them they take the owner(s) away in handcuffs.

No, I definitely prefer my Australian hydro shop where I can go in (as I will tomorrow) and buy my favourite mj specific bloom booster from a range of choices, have a chat to the owner, find out what's going on in the hydro world, check out some new products, etc, etc, I would not trade this for some US cloak and dagger on-line shop and you would probably find that most American growers would agree with me on that.

g'day; nothin wrong with oz hydro shops, you can buy any of the over rated products that sell in US here also.

Australia has a lot of hydroponic buyers, western sydney is alight every night with glow of multiple HPS fruit and veg crops.look around Kemps Creek and Bringelly or Liverpool areas.

Australia is leading world in certain aspects of hydroponic gardening.

if you want to have glitzy, new age technology and waste your money, go for it, cheapest system is as good if not better than super duper wizz bang technology.

Example of ozzie hydro shops again -

Swing rang about 20 hydro shops about x-mas time looking for a thermostat to switch a dehumidifier on/off at certain humidy levels in the grow-room.

and guess what!

you cant buy then in australia ---another product----

Rang a hydro shop in the UK and they not only had then, but they made than to order - Which swing had in his hands within 3 weeks after buying.

I totally agree with sols and Urbanhog here, it's just a weed

..and as I've said before, the grower is of more importance than some of all that technical stuff, and for these high-tek tools you can go to the agricultural shops and be supprised about their products. I only go to growshops for nutes, all the rest I get from the same stores the farmers get their stuff, what works for tulips and tomato's, is good for me haha.
