Where to start? Please help an idiot LOL

Recommended Posts

Hello educated ones!

After suffering pain due to lack of weed for medicinal and recreational use, I've decided I might like to try growing my own.

A friend has some seeds, I have no idea what strain they are tho...

I have read loads of stuff on this board and am just more confused than before!

-I seriously only need to grow one plant at any one time for my own use.

-Needs to be grown indoors as neighbours can see over the fence from any angle!

I have a double door inbuilt wardrobe that could be used.

-I am home everyday and am happy to water and tend to the baby as needed

-Want the most simple, cost effective way of setting up/growing one indoor plant...and I am a black thumb!

-I have a fish tank here with all the gear including light etc thats not being used! Any thoughts on if this

can be utilised?

If some of you kind people could give me a heads up (hehe) on what you think my best options are,

as far as a very primitive, simple set up goes I would greatly appreciate it !!!!

I am happy to research my head off here but am lost as to what to start with !

Thanks in advance,

Morgaine :applause:

Not to worry...except that we may confuse you more at first.

I believe that soil is the easiest way for a beginner. You will have to grow more than one seed to be sure you have a female...you have a 50/50 chance with seed, unless the seed is femanized.

The easiest and safest way to start is to either get Jiffy pellets or clear plastic cups to start your seeds. If you use cups you will use the same soil mix throughout the grow. You will need to cut slits (3) down the sides of the cups and also a few in the bottom for drainage/wicking up water.

I like a commercial soil called Stagreen it has a good proportion of slow release ferts in it and is supposed to be good for 6 months. I mix this with 1/3 perlite. You don't need to rinse the perlite for soil. Your water should be filtered or rainwater. Not tap unless you're sure it's free of mineral salts.

And I'm going to leave the lighting and air to someone else.

The best of luck!

Hiya Bill

Quick reply thank you!

Umm happy to stick with simple soil set up

Not sure on the $$ cos not sure whats required?!!!

I am not really capable of building stuff into the ceiling

or the walls or whatever..forgot to say that but I'm a dumby

that shouldn't be allowed anywhere near anything more dangerous

than a glass of milk...power tools would definately end in tears :applause:

Hang about I've just had a thought ( a rare occurrence)

Our manhole to the ceiling is in my walk in robe.

There is a shelf all the way around the robe, so any ducting

for a simple small exhaust fan or whatever could just go straight up into the

manhole from the shelf.........any thoughts ?

SS has a beautiful grow in a wardrobe.

Your biggest expense will be the lights. Since ur home all day like me you can adjust things as they happen, I open the door to my cabs all day and run fans. I don't worry about the smell because it's my house, but that's more up to you. If I ever do decide to, I think I will try building the one that's on the site, and try to incorporate an odor sock into it. But ventilation will be another large expense if you aren't handy.

You can save a little by giving the inside of the wardrobe a fresh coat of an ultra white paint, and tape up the floor with plastic.. Shoot for white, maybe an old shower curtain or vinyl tablecloth.

If it were me, I would try to copy SukonmiSkunks wardrobe grow except not hydro. Soil.

How are you set for power in that room where the wardrobe is?

If you can get someone to wire it you might try a bathroom exhaust fan...

Hmmm head is spinning...!

I have a few ideas now, perhaps I can start them off indoors in my fish tank and once

they are sprouted etc move them to a simple soil cupboard set up in the garage?

I need to get into chat with some of you but it won't let me login yet...was it ten posts

before you could login?? or am I doing something wrong? !

Cheers all,

Morgaine

Hi Morgaine,

I would suggest that you visit a Hydro shop, start familiarising yourself with whats out there.

I would recommend you grow in soil, or a passive hydroponic wick system, (think those 'self-watering pots')

A very important consideration is: The bigger your light, the more heat it produces, and so you need a good exhaust fan, to suck out the hot air. I would also suggest you get a centrifugal fan, and that could be more expensive than your light. Maybe $250? Your fan(s) are VERY important.

Light: I would recommend the 400 watt Son-T-argo.

Good luck in your grow.

yep hey morgaine

id go soil to start, hand watered run to waste

probably some searles premium potting mix

add 1/3 perlite

get a good 1 or 2 part flowering nutrient

like canna tera..i think thats the soil 1

some superthrive for vege and some potash for flower or monstabud

a 400w hps ballast bulb and small chinaman shade would be suficient

a decent centrifugal with a carbon filter or odorsok for extraction and smell

as long as u get a descent centrifugal 200mm or bigger u will get away with passive air intake

but u may wanna later get a inline fan for air in as summer can get pretty hot and humid and u dont wanna encourage mould..also an oscilating fan for circulating the air in the cab would be very handy

i think u can pick up a robe from vinnies or sallys

the garage is a better option imho as its outta the way and security is paramount imho

all the best

bill

skunks guide will give u a great starting point

i think he also has a week by week grow guide aswell
