Seed roots got intence light.

Recommended Posts

I planted my seeds (after leaving in damp tissue over night) about a quarter of an inch under the soil and as the light(250watt hps) was only about 6 or 7 inches above the soil it dried out the top layer of soil after 18hours of lights on and when i watered them to make moist again the water pushes the dry soil off a bit each time so that eventually the seed was very close to the top.Well yesterday i raised the light about another 3 inches higher and went to put the seed a little deeper in the soil but it had sprouted and i had the light on and the root got about 4 seconds of intence light before i coverd it up again.

Is this going to be ok?Or would i have shocked it?Also when planting a seed that is not sprouted which position is best? The hole end down or up or on its side?

The two seeds i planted i wasnt sure which position so i put them in on there side.My growbox hits 30 degrease but only after the lights have been on for about 2 hours.I think its because of the fans are too strong, mabee.

Here are some pics of my finished growbox.Seeds have been in 6 days now.At first i had both fans connected to the sides of the growbox but the vibrations made it way to noisy,so i put 4 screws in the sides and connected the fans with zip ties so the fans are hanging in mid air and this cut the noise down heaps. In another pic it shows that i have screwd two pieces of wood to the outside and covered in material to stop the light coming out so much from where the fan air holes are.

Anyway this is my first growbox, what do you guys think?light and fans cost me $200 and box was made up of scrap plywood sheets laying around the house.I have just bought a fan speed controller($80) and panda film($17.50) so they will go in soon.

Your light is to close to the pots it is drying the soil out and at this point u dont need that i would raise the light to as least 1-1/2 foot above the pots to stop drying out ya soil.

I dout that the light that the root of the seed got will heart, but just make sure u dont let the soil dry out keep it moist but not to wet and all should be ok.

Yeah that light is way too close for seeds sprouting...it will be like popping them in a deep frier! Move that light waaaaayyyyy up until they have some development to them.

You shouldn't be needing to re-wet the soil at all at this stage, just make it consistently moist and leave them alone.

Position the thermometer out of direct light but at the same height as the plants tops.

It is more likely that your temps are too high because your exhaust fan is not strong enough.

I would add some ducting to the exterior side of the inlet and outlet holes and wind it in a snake as a light trap, and cover the ends with stockings for bugs.

Best of Grows.
