problems germinating

I found some seeds in a film canister and decided to start growing. not sure what they are. these seeds are most like years old from back when my dad used to grow.

 

They are at the end of the 5th day in the paper towel and nothing has happened to the 10 seeds except for two, these two haven't cracked down the side of the seed the have just popped, they just have a hole in them and are pretty much empty.

 

Are these seeds buggered or is there hope?

If a seed doesn't pop in 2-3 days, they're usually bird food. Enthusiastic beans will crack in 24 hrs.

 

Are you warming them? I like putting them on a folded paper towel in a plastic bag which is blocked open a bit and chuck them on top of the fridge or on the back of a CRT computer monitor.

im not warming them but its about 28C where i am i live in NW (Kimberleys) i read that sometimes a seed can take up to 12 days to germ, my mate is going to get me some new seed if these don't sprout. probably skunk or big bud.

seeds can sometimes take 2-3 weeks to sprout, but if they are from your father's generation chances are they are dead

If a seed took more than a week to pop, I'd bin it. Never in >20 years of growing have I seen a viable seed that took any longer than a week to pop.

got 4 seeds from some nice pale buds still waiting to pop, this is the 2nd or 3rd day (i forget which) and still no signs of life, although 2 of them seemed to have increased slightly in size.
