Thanks!! Nah Mullaway, as it only a bag seed grow I won't be cloning, I wanted to get a few seed grows under the belt and then get some good seeds, Crawl before I walk sort of thing.

 

I have a question for the seasoned growers out their. How long does it usually take to start seeing buds form. I have had her under 12/12 for 3 weeks now, the vertical growth has slowed and the bud sites seem more compact, I was wondering if she is going slow? Bit of info on the grow. It is a soil grow in a 20lt planter. 2/3 good quality potting mix 1/3 Perlite. Have been feeding in veg with Fish emultion, Seaweed solution and some micro nutes. 2 weeks into 12/12 I started Manutek Bloom booster. Any advise greatly appresiated!!

Looks like your doin a nice job on her Ausbud. Is that your first ever homegrown? Bet you can't wait to smoke her up.

 

If its from bagseed make sure you check her regularly for male flowers, as the seeds may have come from a hermie.

I use the same mixture as you for my soilies, and your feeding of the plants sounds good to me.. maybe add some pk13/14 .. I use Searles liquid Potash, basically the same thing from what I gather, and you can buy it from bunnings ..

Hey Bong on. Thanks for the info! the light set up with 2 bulbs - veg and flower, fitting and bat wing reflector cost $100 with postage. I really should have gone for a 400watt hps or MH but will be upgrading for the next time around. Will use the fluro set up for clones/seedlings when I upgrade. Edited August 18, 2007 by Ausbud

ausbud, you got a pretty good deal on the big CFL kit- $100 for two big CFLs and a reflector is well under my cost, and I buy at wholesale rates.

 

The CFLs make nice lights for clones and also for slow vegging mums if you like.

 

They might be big CFLs, but they're still CFLs and they emit low-intensity light. As you know, they don't work terribly well for flowering. They will make buds but not highly dense nor heavy buds. It's the high intensity of HPS lighting which produces those characters.

Yeah it was a good deal, well........ thats what my wife told me it cost. Is was a present from her after I looked at the pack on ebay. I will persist with the CFL for my first go around, I'm just glad that when I upgrade it can be used elsewhere. It's seving me pretty well now and she grew pretty fast under it, although I have it 5cm off the canaopy with a fan to cool it down a bit.

 

Another question for the seasoned growers. When I upgrade should I go for a 400w, 600 or 1000w HPS? I don't want to keep having to purchase more and more when I find out what I have is not quite right. For my second grow I am going to trail Hydro in the form of Auto Pots (I know you can do better but taking small steps) and will only ever be flowering 2 plants max. I have been told a 400 would be more than enough. I recon 1000 is over kill in a big way but would like some opions.

what size space you got to grow in, sounds like ya want / need a 600.
