To cram or not to cram.....

So id love to hear from experienced growers regarding weather or not i should cram my 4 x 4 space (using a 400w) with several plants, or maybe just grow 6-8 plants inside. Which method should yield the most? I crammed about 20 in this grow but many buds didnt fill out as thick as i would have liked, still waiting while drying to discover the total amount. Thanks again.

i'd stick to 4,9, 16 or 25 plants depending on how many plants you want, how long you want to vege, etc. its just that with 25 plants there is no need to vege, 16 plants would get 1 week vege, 9 plants get 2 weeks and if you went 4 plants i would give them 3 or 4 weeks vege...

personally i like 9 plants vegged for 2 weeks under a single 400w, it gets a decent yield, looks neat and while the plant numbers are fairly high, they could be much higher :toke:

High Yota ,

I'm not entirely sure if you mean 4x4 metres or feet .. but seeing as tho I don't see how you could fit 25 (decently potted) plants into a 4x4ft space I'm going to guess you mean metres :toke:

Given that , the space is not the issue , the wattage of your light is :) .. under a 400w in any decent space (preferable not too large) .. I'd do 4 plants , you could do 6 smaller ones or 9 at the most I would think ..

The plants will bud better with more access to light , if your plants are competing for light they will all suffer for it .. so ofc if you grow them too large aswell then the light cannot penetrate well to the lower branches , so It kinda defeats the purpose sometimes if you know what I mean :P ..

The other option for maybe more plants would be a SOG/SCROG grow (Sea/screen of green) .. which I won't go into here as you can easily suss that out yourself with any easy search around here ..

But even with a single 1000w light , 4x4(metres) would still be too big a space for that minimal light coverage I think ..

Also try and make every surface in your grow space reflective , even Flat white paint is good (and inexpensive) ;) ... sorry if I'm stating the bleeding obvious btw .. :)

And maybe a picture of your setup and space would help us to give you a better idea of what you can do aswell , if you want lol nw

O.k. Good luck with it all , and if any questions then feel free to ask ofc ,O.k. Cheerz :flex:

How come no veg for 25 plants? Would get too crowded in a 4 x 4? Would yield be higher from smaller and more plants, or bigger and fewer? I assume it should be about the same

there would be no vege because the plants would out grow the area once in flower. as for the yield, it will pretty much all end up being the same, some methods will yield slightly more than others and some less, but you also have to factor in time, not just how much you pull per crop. the reason is that with no vege, those 25 clones would finish in say 8 weeks, but if you only had 4 plants they would take 11-12 weeks depending on the vege time. those 3 or 4 weeks really start adding up over time and before you know it you can get an extra couple of harvests each year for free :flex:

only problem is plant numbers and believe me when i say that you'll get in more trouble for 25 buds on a stick under a 400w light than you will 4 monster plants that tower over even the largest of giant that sets their eyes upon them. the police are only concerned with plant numbers and unfortunately it doesnt matter if the plant is a 20ft giant or a 2inch clone, they are worth the same in the eyes of the law :toke:

I agree with Budman, I assume you are talking in metric rather than imperial. (but then you are running a 400W light that would be the go in a 4ftx4ft space....???)

If you want to see a good example of what overcrowding will do then read my White Russian Scrog - things looked pretty great until half way through flower and I ran out of room and I got more stem than bud at the end.

The most important thing with lights and space is knowing what your usable light footprint is and tailor the grow to that.

A 1000W is good for 1.5m^2 - 2m^2 so your room could handle 4 tonners if you are going to pack them in and your ventilation is adequate.

If you are talking in feet then you must be lollypoppping the clones and throwing them straight into flower with minimal vege time as other have explained.

A 400W will cover a 1x1m space well so if you ended up with more stem than bud try reducing your numbers and let the plants have some room to breathe - the results should improve.

i am talking about a 4 x 4 feet space. I crammed 21 plants in last grow. You all have been a great help to me so ill put up some pics in grow diary area. Right now im making some gumby hash hehe.

Ya good point about the law, more plants means more trouble.

Heres a pic of some....they were about 3 feet tall. ones on the outer edges were smaller and ones towards the middle got bigger. Still waiting on total harvest amount.

most looked like this, this was a larger one....spread out smaller buds.

Growroom looked like this, about a week before harvest

I think 1 reason i want bigger fatter buds is because i want less trimming, this took forever.
