Help with long lanky stretchy plant

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone

as anyone got advice on what to do with 2 plants that, due to circumstances beyond

my control, had to be kept in a large cupboard ( 3ft high x 4 ft deep x 5ft long) during

veg (6 weeks veg- tried to tie it down as we went along). I am willing to veg for another 2

weeks if I have to prune it hard to regain what I cut, but what is the best way to prune them?

I am tying them down to try and get a flat canopy, but there is not much substance to the plants,

long, long internodal gaps, long lanky branches, and the secondary branches and shoots are matchstick

thin.

Any advice appreciated

Tie them over pretty hard, around 30 - 45 degrees from the horizontal and let the branches take over the vertical growth. Have a fan blowing on them to simulate wind, this will strengthen the stalks as well as circulating the air around the grow room.

Ok, I did forget to mention that the plants were vegged under 10 x 36w Natural White fluoro's.

They are now under a 600w HPS each. They have branches up to 2 1/2 foot long but not much

substance on them. Should I prune? Any ideas on whether I should take the tips off the end of

each branch, or maybe cut each secondary to thicken it up.

Thanks

That's up to you, I wouldn't though. If you are growing in a wardrobe then you could fasten some plastic garden fence/trellis around the walls and train some of the longer branches around that.

yep trellis is the go dude. but i wouldnot veg any more turn them straight to 12/12 cause you gunna get a stretch in flower anyway. oh do you even know if they are female? have they been sexed yet? you gunna be mighty pissed to find out they both males(if they are) like i was with my first ever run. totally wasted all that time and cash growing bloody males. what strain are they? hope all goes well dude...

Yeh, they are definitely females, I have been vegging-cloning from the same line

for about 4 years now. I always grow on a screen of sorts, not exactly trellis,

but something similar. They are not in a wardrobe anymore they have there own

1.2 x 1.2 m space so that is not a problem, but I didn't want to lose yield due to

the lankiness.

Tom, when you say tie them over to 30-45 degrees from the horizontal,

do you mean past the horizontal line toward the floor. Is this because it releases

some type of hormone that makes the secondary shoots power on? I think I read

about this somewhere, sometime.

hey there

i agree with the other set up a type of screen and train them into that this will give you the strength you need for flower

you could also tip the top shoots if you want to veg for abit longer this will even out the canopy abit but i wouldnt worry about it as it will increase your veg time

also i would next time just veg them under the 600w if you can and keep it close to the plants that wil stop ya stretch issue as every time i have veged under fluro's they have always stretched
