tipping bud?

Recommended Posts

hey all,

i have some cletic stone outdoors (a bit late i know) they are about 2 months old and i noticed it started to flower. i pinched off the bud (about 4 days into flowering) which was only some pistons. will it keep flowing becuase i want to let the plant a bit bigger. will the lower branches flower still?

yep the whole plant will flower

wat happens is

theres a chemical in the plant that controls and triggers flowewring

this needs 12/12 or similar photoperiod for the chemical to build

wether u tip or not it will still flower as the chemical has been triggered

tipping in flower will only slow the growth and formation and really effect yield imo

all the best

All pinching the buds off is going to do is cost you in yield, you want this plant to get through flowering as quickly as possible or you are going end up with a mould tree instead of a mull tree when the weather turns wet. You may need to consider some protection from the rain as well, there is always a high risk of mould on plants running this late in the season.

I've read that topping or fimming the plant during the very beginning of flower (like 4 days) won't effect the yield and may improve it as it gives lower shoots a chance to play catch up if the plant could use some filling out.

If you catch the tips before they change too much it's ok.

I've just tried this with my WR's on a couple of flower sites so I hope it works! :scratchin:

If anyone can shoot holes in this please feel free to as I'm only trying something I've read a few places.

I do agree with Tom that maybe your timing wasn't the greatest with the wet approaching though. This technique does add to the flowering time due to the recovery.

tipping a plant doesnt generally give an increase in yield unless the strain being tipped is a single cola type strain. what generally happens is that instead of getting 1 huge cola, you end up with 2 small - medium sized buds which might weigh as much as what the original huge cola would have. if you want to have 2 huge colas instead of 1, tip the plant a week or 2 before flowering.

keep in mind though that tying a plant down not only makes the lower branches grow out heaps more, you dont lose the big cola you would have if you tipped the plant and best of all there is minimal stress compared to hacking off a grow tip :scratchin:

Yeh , But if the plant was already in flower , I wouldn't peronally tip it .. that top cola would generally yield the biggest percentage of bud weight ..

Whereas if you tipped it before flowering , and let the new "top" branches grow you could yield well (letting the lower brances fill out and gaining more top colas) ..

In saying that .. ;) .. Its only 4 days flowering as you said .. SO , You might get a nice "Y-Bud" to go lol

I guess the only thing is it may shock the plant a little as Its trying to flower , concentrating its energy into the uppermost growing tips ..

Might mean a day or 2 delay .. or if they have good conditions might mean nuthin and they will charge .. :ack:

Anyhoo , good luck .. and let us know how it goes Yamam :peace:
