Grubby Lil Bastards!

I was out the back earlier doing some potted gardening.

 

I found my 1/4 bag of year old potting mix and expanded my coco. I did a 50/50 mix of potting mix and coco, now the dirt hold water...

 

While I was mixing, I found these grubby lil bastard in my potting mix...

 

Anyone know that they are and why that are in my potting mix?

 

 

Incidentally, I picked them out and threw them into the back yard. I hope the birds have a good feed on the lil sods!

Look like small witchetty grubs (moth larvae)

 

No idea why they would be there, I guess they liked it and decided to stay

they are what looks like lawn grub, they pretty much eat roots of plants and love the roots of your lawn.

they are little bastards as they have screwed up my lawn before.

to get rid of them i get some shit from bunnings that u use once a year .

nugget... is possible, but there's nothing in the potting mix for them to eat!

 

dangerdan, after doing a google serch for lawn grubs (after I read your post) I have found out that YEP! they are lawn grubs!

 

And I went and threw them out onto the "lawn"!

 

Oh well. I wouldn't really call it lawn anyway, more a mass growth or all sorts of weeds! And most of it's dead anyway coz there's been bugger all rain!

They look like curl grubs M. They'd be larvae to a common beetle from your area, like chrisy beetle, cock caffer, those little rhino ones, dung beetle etc.

Yeah, they're not the witchety grubs that are good to eat, but our chooks love em they've latched on to our sons soft little fingers a few times, makes him howl a bit

 

I found a heap of them in an old compost heap once, but they were about 4 inches long

Uh huh... I might have to do some investigation now... I'm sure there are more in my potting mix. I could always take one over to Carseldine Nursury. I'm sure they would know!

I will have to go back there soon anyway coz I have used up over half my jiffy pots already!

. I was worried they might have bitten me, but I was wearing gloves at the time... (Coz I have mauled the skin around my nails... :s I used to bite my nails. Now I just chew AROUND them! )

 

These suckers were between 20 mm and about 40 mm... Ugly lil fuckers!
