Silencing Centrifugal Fan!

Recommended Posts

High all,

It's been a long time since i posted, I've got a new job and it's hard to find the time lately. My current grow (2 x Mazar + 1 x Belladonna, in week 4 of flower) is coming along well, and the last harvest is going down a treat. I went to the hydro store the other day to buy a couple of grommets and came home with a new fan :toke: I'm like a kid in a candy shop at that place. The problem i now face is the noise the thing makes, does anybody know if wrapping the fan in a blanket (with ducting attached either side) would reduce the noise or cause a fire?

Peace

I run a 250mm centrifugal and it lives under a heap of roof batt insulation wrapped in a blanket and I haven't had any dramas. It quietened the noise significantly but you can still hear it.

You could always go for insulated ducting or a muffler but those cost a few $$$'s.

Might be worth your while going to a musical instrument shop like Billy Hydes and asking about the sound proofing foam they sell for rehearsal rooms. Not cheap but you won't need much to wrap the fan in. If it can muffle a full drum kit it's probably worth looking at.

May wanna consider this option. Itsa 250mm fan encased in its own box, within a box. the primary box has insulation batts packed into as much as possible by hand, then enclosed. In theory, it should minimize the chance for it to combust, because the insulation has replaced any o2 from around the fan. As fire can't happen without o2.

Another thing, the insulated fire resistant ducting used here goes a long way in helping with noise reduction.

BTW, ya got some nice buddage there mate. All the best with it moKing :toke:
