easy clone

Recommended Posts

G'day Boys

I just recently tried this method of cloning after finding it on another site. I took 24 good looking little cuttings off the lower branches and thought I'd experiment...

They stayed looking good for 3 weeks and then started deteriorating. Small white spots (roots) started emerging on the stems, but then never grew out any more?

I kept them going for 5 weeks and eventually took them out and had a good look... None of them made it.

I saw spots that the roots had started growing from, heaps of them. They just never got any better...

After giving it some thought, I figure my aerated water was too cold...

We had a couple of cold nights and I reckon heating the water and keeping it at a constant temp could have made the difference.

I'll give this method another go as it is really simple, but this time, with a heater :peace:

Just my 5 cents worth

cheers :scratchin:

Mate, it has to be something extremely simple that's stuffed you up, like the warmth you mentioned. because I've used this method for years now, and I swear have never had a clone fail.

The only problems I've had is the root mass tends to be "brittle" where it first emerges fromthe clone stem, and they're a bloody nuisance to get to take from bare rooted into soil if you have any reason to, which I did, and really stuffed up bad.

But as for heat, I just put a heat tray under it in winter, just as if I were using rockwool, and never had a spot of bother. Even strains that were difficultt o clone, like bubbleberry (was that a hard one?) anyway one I had that was a spectacular bastard to clone was easy too, when done this way.

It has to be something simple. Definately go again, best of luck with it.

I'm not going to argue with oldman, he's clearly doing well, but we always went with keeping them out of water, so as the bubbles "exploded", the spray hit the stems, but they weren't water logged. Legend had it, (I wouldn't know as I always was fanatical about keeping them just the right height from the water for this to happen) they could rot if left in the water itself. Which was why I asked oldman what I did about how he does it. That's all I can think of saying. It's surpising to hear you had strife at all mate.

cheers

I'll definately give it another go Robbie, no worries about that!

Like I said, i thought I was home dry but then...

This time Ill use the aquarium heater in the water to keep it nice and 'cosy' for the little buggers. I just took nine (in Rockwool). I'll probably take another 10 or 20 in a couple of days to see, and keep 6 of the best in the next month or so for the next grow. I'd also like to give a bonsai mum a go?

Cheers

what your building is an sort of aero cloner rob

mozza is using more of a swc, shallow water culture, method.

both work equally as well it's when ya start to combine the 2 you get the probs you speak about, from my past exp anyways.

either have em always submerged or never imo

any updates mozz?

This is really interesting stuff. I have everything available to try it out. I'm gonna whack together a similar yet very temporary thing in a cardboard box with a spare airpump and stone in a common bucket, lit with a ~15W CFL.

Interested to see if dangling (aero) or submerging (SWC) works better. I got 2 buckets, lotsa spare mother plant material that I'm used to working with, let's see wot happens. :peace:

Granny says:

Wow. I wish I had seen this before I bought an aerocloner... I did try something like this, but I think my water level was too low. Are the stems touching the water? I can't see...

To think I spent ALL that time making holes in plastic! I never thought of styrofoam. Brilliant! GG
