reusing perlite

Recommended Posts

I have perlite left over from my very first grow. and I really want to reuse the grow media. I've done some googling and all I got was that it's a good idea to sift and to use waterd down peroxide to sterilise. I'm not sure if reusing is something that's widely done by other members here but if anyone can shed some light on this for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thts right Billo .. I thought it was Eikels thread too .. But was Hanky ..

Here's the Link

Doesn't say too much about cleaning it , I would presume just rinsing with clean water would be fine .. But there would still be some salts buildup ..

But I'm with Billo , fresh medium is the way to go if you can ... Perlite isn't really very expensive ..

And the old medium needn't be wasted .. An outdoor garden loves perlite mixed in with the soil :) Improves the soil permanantly ..

Not too sure on sterilization .. I know garden soil can be sterilized in a microwave (lol) .. not sure about perlite tho

(DOn't blame me if ya do it and blow up your kitchen) heheh

I'll be interested to see what other ideas there are ..

if you use a coliseum you've no choice. mine's been running for 3 years now without change. you'll never get all the old root out so use SensiZym or CannaZym to dissolve them into something the plant can use or it may just rot into something lethal to the plants. you can disinfect with H2O2 if you want but i use mycorrhizal fungi so i don't do that and the medium stays sweet and productive.

i rinse for the last 2 weeks of flowering anyway so nutrient buildup isn't an issue.
