New Air Pump Design

Recommended Posts

robbie is that a submersible air pump? looks like it to me. I don't like it because its not easily expandable to multiple air stones if you should ever need that. Like on a regular air pump you can split the line with gang valves as many times as you want.

The ATO air compressors are by far the best value air pumps I've found. If you look at the flow rates compared to the regular aquarium style air pumps nothing comes close ot them for the money. :toke:

Yeah and that's only at 25 cm deep. But I reckon they'd come in more powerful units.

I could't get the link gizmo to workonthis PC, vista. It said the link gizmo wasn't the go for some reason.

Anyway, that link shows a same unit that flows at three times greater at 50 or 60 cm (cant remember now).

Good prices on all things aquaria though that site.

Thanks pipeman, I'l check that out.

I'm in a bad situation for detection these days, just looking for the quietest gear around.

And on the note, what's the most silent brand of exhaust fans? ANyone know?

cheers

Get yourself some acoustic ducting and you won't have to worry too much about sound, a good meter or 2 on each end and a short length which fits over the fan casing (350mm usually does this well) will silence most fans to a whisper.

That airpump is most interesting though, a novel idea... Is this for a DWC system? If it's just for a recirc or run to waste, you could just use a venturi to pull air into a stream of water from a water pump which you could run all the time just circulating tank water...

Thanks Luke, that air pump just looked interesting and wondered if anyone had tried them. i was thinking of giving it a go in a resevoiur tank for a re-circulating system. Flood and drain, drippers, that kinda thing. Just to airate a tank.

I have to sort out some large amount of air movement too, thanks for that idea, I'll definately do it. No particluar brand of fans though you reckon?

I have a really close nosey dobber neighbour. I know he's a dobber, he threatened to dob us for running the garden hose. Thing is it was for something that was/is within the council rules, still he was calling the council he said.

Bastard has an inground pool, always filling it, no evaporation mechanism, and never in all the time I've lived here (just a year now) seen him in it once! And no matter where I look from on that side of the house I see straight into his pool, so I'd notice. he also has no pool fence. Where do these peopel come from? breaking all the rules themselves, and calling the authorities on me?

Those ATO pumps were being sold on ebay by a young chinese guy who was importing them direct for just 45 bux. I literally threw mine in the bin. The noise drove me mad, and they run hot as hell.

If it's a way from the house I'm sure they'd be great. They sure do put the air out. I ran 8 or 9, 18 inch deep fish tanks from just one pump (the smaller one I think it was too). It once got so hot it seized, don't know why that happened. I was going to return it, but the young fella told me to pull it down, and re-asemeble it, which I did, and it never fouled up again.

cheers

PS. I think the best air pumps from all the hundreds I've tried breeding fish, are the 4 and 8 outlet jobbies. Can't think of the brand right now. http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/prod41.htm

To buy them from aquarium shops they normally cost too much, but they're ok from this joint. 10 bux an outlet kinda thing, or maybe cheaper.Noweher near as much air as pipeman's, but a whole lot better to live with.

They're silent, pump good amounts aand all. The best by far are the piston type pumps, but they cost too much.

cheers
