Whole house a dope factory

21Mar07

POLICE last night raided a sophisticated hydroponic marijuana crop at Helensvale with a potential street value of up to $3 million.

Every section of the small brick home was used to cultivate the plants except for part of the kitchen and one room.

Officers descended on the Mildura Drive home about 4pm and seized more than 15 mature plants, some up to 2m high.

When officers executed the search warrant they found a false wall near the entrance and a door in the kitchen. Both led to a large room where the plants were stored under lighting.

There was also a drying room and seedling room to assist with production.

The occupants had allegedly stolen electricity to power the ducted airconditioning and lighting used to cultivate the highquality cannabis.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kerry Johnson, from the State Drug Squad, said the laboratory was very sophisticated.

"It certainly is a large, well-organised hydroponics set-up. There are bigger ones, but (in terms of its) sophisticated nature, it's as good as it gets. Very professional," he said.

"At this stage we can only see one bedroom and part of the kitchen that's used as a normal house. The rest of it appears to be a front for hydroponics."

The plants seized in the state-of-the art laboratory indicated how effective it was. Each plant was close to 2m high with large buds.

The plants could be smelled from outside the home.

Police said the plants had been growing for 'quite a while'.

Det Snr Sgt Johnson said the laboratory potentially was worth millions of dollars.

"It's hydroponics and they're continually harvesting. There's the potential there to run into the millions of dollars."

Senior police said the estimated worth of the plants in their current state was about $4000 each, but because of continual harvesting and fertilising a plant could make up to $200,000.

The daylight-like conditions inside the home ensured the plants grew rapidly.

Hydroponic cannabis plants are said to be more potent than bush-grown plants.

Energex officers were called to examine the power, which allegedly was being stolen.

Stunned neighbours looked on late last night as police pulled apart the home, brought out the cannabis plants, one by one, and loaded them into vans.

Last night two people were assisting police in relation to the discovery.

Don't mean to be a scab, but seing I now know the truth (thaks to sgt. stedanko of helesnvale cop shop), could I borrow a few hundred grand? I mean that's just one plant and all..

You'd think there'd be some ground rules on lieing in the world of police/truth/justice and the crime fighting way of life...

I bet there's clowns out there that'd swallow this nonsense. I've been growing and involved with growers of various levels since I was 16, (I'm mid 40s now), and I have yet to meet a millionaire grower yet.

I read an article one year about ten years back whch suggested the avergae grower in Australia made about $1000 worth of grass for themselves.

Sure some make a bag full, and some make an ounce worth, I reckon 1K worth is probably about the right figure "on average".

All this talk of drug users being immoral etc, and lieing is like the king of immorality; just makes me angry is all.

cheers

what fucking load of crap.. so we're led to beleive that 15 plants// 2m tall will yield 3million$$.. youve got to be joking... this house would have to produce some where in the amount of 600pounds of MJ to get the 3million.. and thats at $5000 a pound... so realistically when pounds in bulk sell for $2500.. they would have to grow 1200 pounds.. man that must be a fuckin big house...

love the way the pigs over exaggerate for the news hey.... anyone that can do the math will know its fucking IMPOSSIBLE to grow 1200 pounds from just 15 plants.... fuckwit pigs...

great another person looses there house over a slight math error..

even at $4000 a plant as said does not = millions. continual growing too so not all 15 plants where flowering.

Small brick home im guessing 3 bed with maby 5 plants in each room with 4 600s each room, if they grew non stop for 10 years maby just maby if they sold it on the street they might make there million $$

More to the story im sure maby like they own 10 other houses with the same deal just can see 15 plants even being worth $10 000.

Hey Jimbo, I was just thinking somthing similar. I mean if this factory is making millions, why did they bust it? They'd have to be the stupidist organised multi million dollar crims in the world to foget paying the cops to leave it alone.

Failing that, it's just another poor slob making a last ditch effort to get a deposit for a house to raise his family in, otherwise known as "making miillions".

makes ya sick.
