Canna Flores

Recommended Posts

Yep for sure racingsnake, and that makes good sense.

:toke:

If they are getting all the nutes they need, why would they search for more?

Thats not a bad way to look at it, but I'd say it's normal for a healthy plant. The very ends of the roots only last a few days and are replaced so it's a never ending story of growth which should slow as they flower. If your res has an airstone which it would, the roots are heading for the oxygen, they love it.

tachment=21361:attachment]Hey ya , guys this is all good advice about the cannna flores, I have a close friend using canna flores at the moment, the method they are using is( still grown ) using spongelite or common kitty litter it is an inert natural media which can be reused with great ease , I have posted many threads in the past featuring this method, using flood and drain or n.f.t here a couple of pics of a current grow of a cross we have called Hyppo, the parentage is a fast maturing clone of White Rhino. Crossed with an Apollo 13 male also featured in a thread somewhere on this site buggered if I can find it but . The plants are now 7 weeks from germination they are growing in 5 litres of spongelite in 2 gallon buckets drain holes in side 2 cm up from bottom 1 hole is drilled in bottom of bucket as well , they are sitting in plant tray which is filed 2-3 times daily with 250 mls of nutrient solution. When the plant tray is almost dry fill er up again. plants were vegged for 25 days under 600 hps with canna vega at 1.6 ec using rain water . Additives , Cannazym for root health at 10 mls per 10 litres of water + canna vega, ph is 5.8-6.2. Flowering-- using canna flores start 1.6 ec and work E.C up to 2.4 in 3rd week , Additives Cannazym 10 mls per 10 litres of water canna flores a+b @ 40 mls each per 10 litres + Canna P.K 13 14 @10 mls per 10 litres water after 1 week of using Canna P.K. 13 14 , cease canna P.K. as plants will hold enough to see plants through till harvest , however you must keep using Canna Flores + cannzym at reduced E.C say 2.2 4th week. 2.0 5th week . 1.8 6th week . 1.4 7th week till harvest P.h will stay fairly constant 5.8- 6.2 root growth is continial bud growth is explosive and compact the plants shown are just 6 weeks old cheers from tassie devil ps hope this is not to confusing .

Hey Bio

Great Pics man. You have a lovely canopy and appear to be making great use of you space.

If that is the worst of the burning you have I wouldn't be too worried man. The leaves (on the white paper) look pretty well dark green to me (even though there is a bit of a yellow streak on one). It doesn't look like you are over feeding (well not too badly) to me. I have just bought some Canna Substr for my next grow. I am very interested to see how it goes. I was previously buying some crap that the local hydro guy mixed up and the Canna stuff seems to be less colourful (i think the other stuff had some dyes in it). I have started off with a 2ml/L solution and will probably step it up to a 3.5ml/L solution when they get established. I remember the side of the bottle saying something about 4ml/L max.

You said you were using beads, are you recycling the water or dumping it? If you are recycling, how big is you reservoir and how often do you dump it. I use a 50L reservoir and when the plants are really growing I dump it each week (every 2 weeks in the early stages). You gotta flush them beads out man they get a lot of salts building up especially if it is a trickle fed system.

PS I am using 70% Pearlite 30% vermiculite as a medium.

Good luck Bio, hope it helps some.

Oh yeah mj roots go nuts. You just cant stop em regardless of how much food you give em.

I Used to feed 'em once every 3 hours during lights on and starting 15 minutes before and ending just before lights off. I was advised by a Hydro-shop that I should feed continiously as I'm in clay balls...

I have definately seen a growth spurt since I have started continious feeding... although I don't know if it is because i have more plant material growing now or because of the nutes if you know what I mean?

When everything is going well, especially when plants are young and growing vigorously, continual feeding can result in very nice growth rates especially with a well drained medium like expanded clay. But as the plants get older and get into the flowering cycle you are risking root disease by continually watering. My recommendations would be to go back to running cycles once you start flowering. The roots need a bit of a breather every now and then. If at any time you think the plants aren't drinking as much as they were, then immediately back off the watering as that is one of the first signs the roots are not well.

With regards to the nutrient strength, I am a big advocate on running weaker strengths, even down to 1.2 EC. I always find my plants are happier on the lower EC. I have tried all strengths of nutrients from real weak to real strong and running the weaker strengths has never resulted in a lower yield or loss of quality. Tip burn on the leaves is usually a sign of the nutrients being too strong, but it can have other causes too.

Just a note for Stoney, converting ppm to EC or CF is not something that is exact but most tester manufacturers use a conversion of 650 for EC and 65 for CF. As an example 2.0 EC ~= 1300ppm(2.0*650). The strength you run 1700ppm ~= 2.6EC or 26CF.
